steviedee
Can anyone recommend an interface that has no preamps or you can bypass the preamps ? Just for recording the bass, no mics or guitars! Can be a single input! Edited November 18, 2023 by steviedee
Mottlefeeder
I think the basic Behringer models will do that. About £22. David

skidder652003
not sure how the signal would be picked up from the bass to your DAW without a preamp?
sandy_r
(OP has preamp, just needs line level interface) Edited November 22, 2023 by sandy_r

I already have a preamp, so I need a line level input but a lot of interfaces with line level inputs have combo jacks and they don't bypass the preamp, it's essentially a pad so you don't clip the interface. Probably no big deal but if you already have a sound you like then the interface preamp is not necessary. BigRedX
On a decent audio interface the preamps should essentially be transparent so it shouldn't matter. 1

ahpook
My old NRV-10 has insert points on each channel that come after the input gain stage, so you can use that to bypass the preamps. Might be worth looking for an interface that has a similar thing. Edited November 22, 2023 by ahpook
Sibob
Also most decent interfaces should be able to change their inputs to Line level (which will bypass much of the 'preamp circuitry'). If you preamp has a Line out, that's probably the easiest way to go. Si
tayste_2000
Shameless plug Just use the connections on the back, set the gain accordingly
Elfrasho
I might be daft, but I can't imagine this having enough of an impact on the sound that id swap an interface for.

Pre amp describes just about anything that deals with low level signals, they don't have to be something that changes or colours your signal and they don't even have to have any gain, they may just be matching impedances or buffering a signal to stop it affecting other parts of the circuit. Unless you intend designing your own electronics you don't need to know any of this Just be confident that the electronics in your interface are as clean sounding as they can be.
