Rayman
The bass that you would love to own from the year of your birth…. 1965 Fender Jazz for me. @mamayo had one, absolutely bloody lovely. Woodinblack
I played a 1965 fender jazz at one point that I really loved, and was tempted because it was my birth year, but problem was it was £3k which seemed a stupid amount of money for what it was and some added nostalgia, now they have got even more stupidly priced I know I will never have one, and there aren't many other basses of that period I like, and tbh, any 4 string is almost certainly going to end up unplayed, so it would be a waste. There was a walnut Es355 guitar that was 1965, and £1500 that I almost got but I just didn't have the money at the time, regretted that one.

I would say a '65 Jazz too.
Little Dragon
Always quite liked the Yamaha Samurai and I think they came out in 1967. Edited November 19, 2023 by Little Dragon
LowB_FTW
A Fender Bass V. Which, in reality, I'll never be able to afford. Mark
Lozz196
Would be a 65 Precision in sunburst/tort/rosewood.
rubis
An early 1964 Precision for me, preferably a blue one. I could never get away with spending that amount on a guitar so I made my own, as close to spec as I could get it. I've never played a real one so I couldn't say how close I got, but that's beside the point, I really enjoyed doing it and I love playing it. Cosmo Valdemar
I had a YOB Rickenbacker 4001 a few years ago but it was a bit of a dog so I sold it. Must have been an off day at the factory, I've owned a few more since that have all been lovely.
itu
I'd like to be as young as the fire engine red Status I saw in the 90's. 1

Jean-Luc Pickguard
Fender didn't make mustang basses until 1966, so I'd like this one instead: 1964 Frost Blue Gibson Thunderbird IV, however this one sold on reverb seven years ago for over £70k, so I'm unlikely to ever get one. Maybe I should set my sights on an EB-2 or Epiphone Rivoli instead

Jackroadkill
I'm a '79er, so I don't want a YOB bass, really.
Dad3353
Not available for us oldies (1950...), except double-basses. I'd have issues trying to wield such a beast at my age.

tauzero
For 1957, that gives a Fender Precision, Gibson EB-1, Kay K162, Danelectro Longhorn, Rickenbacker 4000, and Hofner violin bass. Not sure what the least worst option is, there's certainly none that I'd love to own.

OliverBlackman
Old Ken Smith, currently on sale via reverb. I prefer the modern ones though
Steve Browning
My aversion to maple boards means my wallet will never be troubled by a YOB bass. Fortunately.
casapete
I’ve always fancied a Kay bass from 1958, like this K162 ‘Howlin Wolf’ model.
casapete
Also an original 1958 Danelectro Longhorn - I have a reissue but an old one would be ace. ( Or even the Shorthorn pictured here too.)

I'd pick a Danelectro or Gibson from that line up nowdays, if pushed.

BigRedX
Probably a 1960 Gibson EB6. Although like most Bass VIs the neck will most likely be to narrow for me to actually use it.
