I'd probably go for a Ramones/Clash style white P Bass. The very unusual 1979 CF Martin they has just come up in the basses for sale page would be an excellent choice 1

If nothing else, it's guaranteed to get Bass players asking what it is. I know it seems petty, but I bet it weighs a lot. (As seems to be the style at the time! Heavy = Quality). nige1968
Quite fancy one of these, but fear I'd look like mutton dressed as lamb.
msb
I found a yellow reissue, a friend described it as like a Jazz bass on steroids. Great basses.
msb
My main gig bass is the HiFlier. Between the two I’ve got the Japanese Surf bass thing covered.

msb
I was off topic , but being born in 52 doesn’t leave much choice. I do have a MIJ 51 reissue.

The reissues don't have much in common with the originals other than the body and headstock shapes are similar. Different pickups in different positions and a different scale length. I used to own the limited edition 5-string which was essentially a TRB II with the "samurai" body and headstock shape.
