Delberthot
A couple of times now my EBMM Sterling's jack has stopped outputting sound and instead emitted a high pitched squeal. I've found threads on the sound cutting out but not squeeling. Is this likely to be the usual failed jack socket issue? It happened during the first song in the set last night so I unplugged it and used my Sire D5 for the rest of the night. I've changed the battery and tried different cables but it's definitely something wrong with the bass itself. Secondly I ma terrible with a soldering iron so does anyone know anyone in the Central Scotland area who could repair this for me? neepheid
Ach, you're a bit too far away, otherwise would have offered to geek out all over this problem.
Delberthot
That's very kind of you. I am going to be in Aberdeen in a couple of week's time but I don't have space in the car for all of the gear and 3 basses.
Huge Hands
Does it have passive or active electronics? I had an active Cort years ago that used to do this after about 6 months of buying new from a shop. It turned out to be a bad solder joint on a pot casing that wasn't obvious to the eye but eventually broke off so was able to spot and repair with a soldering iron. Was totally reliable after that. velvetkevorkian
Not sure if it's stretching the definition of Central Scotland but I've had good service (including a jack replacement) from Jimmy Egypt in Glasgow.
jonnybass
Depends where central is, but Chris McIntyre in Edinburgh is terrific for all guitar repairing needs.
gjones
I had some similar work done on a bass of mine recently and I used JA Guitars. John fixed the wiring on a Jazz Bass of mine, which included soldering, and it was very professionally done and it only cost me £15. This is his web site https://www.edinburghguitarrepairs.co.uk/
Delberthot
Thanks for the recommendations - I'm in Falkirk so most of these places are within a short car or train journey away.
