This may or may not be a fantastic bargain - XR18 on AliExpress

Wandering around AliExpress, as one does, I found XR18s being sold for £285: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005006220741127.html

So I've ordered one, using a credit card so I've got both AliExpress and credit card protection. I have an XR12, so I'll be able to compare the two visually both externally and internally, as well as comparing the noise they make. It has made its way to the departure transport hub and is supposed to be with me by the 21st.

That is an insanely good price!

You could have had my Soundcraft UI16 for that price. That is definitely genuine. At least Dim Sung Audio said it was (no, it really is genuine).

Why is the link in German?

I don't know. For some reason it redirects to the de. AliExpress store - I wasn't going through a German VPN and other AliExpress stores don't do that. I did try removing the de. but it stayed in German.

Ho hum. Not quite as described. You'd think they could have put a bit more effort in.

You may want to remove your personal details.

Good point, although they will now forever be in that quoted post...

Not if you remove the source pic. I'll remove from the quote anyway.

I'm not quite sure what I'm seeing, but it is no XR18 ... just an empty box with some thin packaging!?

Yes, box with some sort of textured sticky-backed plastic (to quote Blue Peter). Now repacked and awaiting post back to AliExpress's UK-based returns centre.

I didn't think that miniturisation had become quite that advanced ... and even if it had, plugging in an instrument or mic cable would be ... well ...

Hope AliExpress don't mess you about with a refund!

They sent you a box full of packing material????

Wow. Even a cynic like me can still find something to be disappointed by here.

I'm not sure the real thing would ever have fitted into that box. Did you try soaking the plastic overnight, in case it expands into a functioning XR18?

Let us know how you get on with that, if the return process works smoothly then you've lost very little and AliExpress remain a viable option in the UK
