ACC-126 unwanted distortion when bass is played aggressively

problem exists all the time now but it originally would only happen when playing aggressively struck notes on a bass

 

is there a quick fix of some sort or maintenance that may have been neglected till now that could be performed that might remedy the problem..?

Acoustic Control Corporation 126 combo. The distortion may be the driver being pushed too hard, causing it to exceed it's mechanical limit. It also could be a sign that the driver is damaged.

Sounds like you have proven the maxim "if it sounds like it's about to blow up, it probably will", by actual test.

Could also be a flat battery in an active bass.
