I believe it's modelled on one of Janek Gwizdala’s Boss Octave pedals.

 

It's in excellent condition and sounds good.

always been curious about these - does it do the proper OC2 thing?

 

my understanding is the same as yours @ambient in that MXR produced this based on one of JGs old OC2s

I believe that's the case, yes. I bought it to create synth-like sounds. I've since bought some Old Blood Noise pedals that get me the perfect analogue-type synth sound.
