Hi all

Im looking to replace the pickup in a Yamaha BB735a with a him cancelling one.

The pickups are plugged into a little

plastic clip. Does anyone have any idea how to swap these out without melting the plastic?

Cheers

The wire ends are usually crimped and the crimped metal is then clipped into the plastic plug. It's possible, with a little finesse, to push in the clip and extract the crimped end from the plug. You could then see if it's soldered in or retained by the crimp only and act accordingly.

Ahh that's really helpful, thanks so much @Doctor J

I'll try that rather than doing any splicing.

Do you think it's worth just getting a replacement plug? And if so, do you know what I might have to google...

It shouldn't be impossible - someone will know. There are a limited number of formats for these things. You'd need to find the make (like Molex?), the type, the size and whether you need some cripplingly expensive crimping tool to make it work.

It might well be you can get a couple of them off ebay for a few quid and use needle nose pliers to attach the crimp terminals. I'd have thought they would be somewhere in the technical documents for the preamp, or someone on a Yamah specific forum could tell you the exact model number etc.
