d_g Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 (edited) Hi all Im looking to replace the pickup in a Yamaha BB735a with a him cancelling one. The pickups are plugged into a little plastic clip. Does anyone have any idea how to swap these out without melting the plastic? Cheers Edited December 14, 2023 by d_g Quote
Doctor J Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 The wire ends are usually crimped and the crimped metal is then clipped into the plastic plug. It's possible, with a little finesse, to push in the clip and extract the crimped end from the plug. You could then see if it's soldered in or retained by the crimp only and act accordingly. 1 Quote
Doctor J Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 This kind of thing, to help you visualise what you're looking at Quote
d_g Posted December 14, 2023 Author Posted December 14, 2023 Ahh that's really helpful, thanks so much @Doctor J I'll try that rather than doing any splicing. Do you think it's worth just getting a replacement plug? And if so, do you know what I might have to google... Quote
Doctor J Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 Wouldn't have a clue how you'd find the same plug, unless there's a code or part number stamped into the old one somewhere? Quote
bloke_zero Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 It shouldn't be impossible - someone will know. There are a limited number of formats for these things. You'd need to find the make (like Molex?), the type, the size and whether you need some cripplingly expensive crimping tool to make it work. It might well be you can get a couple of them off ebay for a few quid and use needle nose pliers to attach the crimp terminals. I'd have thought they would be somewhere in the technical documents for the preamp, or someone on a Yamah specific forum could tell you the exact model number etc. 1 Quote
lemmywinks Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I'll probably have one of those knocking about, wait a sec... Quote
lemmywinks Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 (edited) These are the ones I have: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334539053705 If they're not the ones (they look slightly different) then just do a Google image search for "2 pin board connector" and you should see something that looks right.
