Rayman Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 I think Dave Swift knows Pino, obviously Pino was in the Who…. I’ll message Dave. 2 Quote

Its a good story that would make an interesting piece. A nationally published magazine would probably have the authority to get a response from the Who organisation. Guitarist magazine can be contacted at [email protected] or on 01225 442244 Great idea thanks! Quote
Rayman Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 Dave Swift has kindly had a look, but as you can imagine, getting a hold of Pino to ask the question about this bass and it's origins is difficult. So for now at least that's a dead end, sorry. Quote
Steve Browning Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 I am gigging with Pete Townsend's guitar tech next week. I can ask if he has any way of finding anything out. Quote

tayste_2000 Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 I imagine it’s not the OP’s auction, I’m just adding another page to the story and we all get to see a lovely sunburst 70s P Quote
Burns-bass Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 I think the bass returned to auction where it was picked up but the weird fantasist / liar / crazy guy who runs Essex Recording Studios. I had a bass that was played by Entwistle with photos and never thought to mention it to the the new owner. This is just utterly pathetic and patent nonsense. 2 1 Quote
Rayman Posted May 10, 2024 Posted May 10, 2024 To be fair, I could make a nice raised bed for my garden out of those planks. 1 Quote

WTF is the story with that guy, seems to have a lot of instruments with a greater or lesser connection to some well known musicians but at mad prices. Is it money laundering? Quote

Is it money laundering? No idea. I think he's just mad. The problem is that it artificially inflates vintage values, making previously affordable instruments crazy prices. One guitar dealer I spoke to said he never bothers to mention previous artist ownership in listings as it's not really much of a factor unless it's a defining instrument (Gary Moore's Les Paul, etc.). These people probably played and owned thousands of guitars. 2 Quote
