Happy Jack Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 That's a big violin you've got there. I'd like to see you get that under your chin. 2 Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 I have no idea why, but the one I get most in Scotland is folk asking if there's a body in the bag. And the tired old "That's a big guitar!" 1 Quote
Mudpup Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 The Herald in Harlow....how did it go there? Quote
bassace Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 How do you get that under your chin? By keeping my f**king mouth shut! 2 Quote
Happy Jack Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 On 17/12/2023 at 10:19, Mudpup said: The Herald in Harlow....how did it go there? Expand We always go down well there, and we get four gigs a year there so we keep coming back. Sometimes we get a decent jive-dance crew turn up, which is nice. The place has an 'estate pub' vibe to it, but it's actually a very well-run place and we've never had any grief when gigging there. Apparently what used to be the main music pub in Harlow closed down last year and The Herald is now the only real venue left in the town. Allegedly. I'm not an Essex boy so I have no local knowledge at all. 1 Quote

StingRayBoy42 Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 Best one I ever heard (while carrying the upright on my back) was "What's that, mate? A coffin for a giraffe?" 4 Quote
Gareth Hughes Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 (edited) I had the classic ‘how’d you get that under your chin?’ from a punter one night in Belfast. I, a bit too forcefully, replied ‘the same way I’m going to get it up your a.s.s. - with a bit of effort’. There was a bit of a stunned silence from the band and bar staff. A few minutes later said punter finishes his pint, puts his coat on and as he’s walking out the door shouts ‘I’m away to get the Vaseline’ 😜 Edited December 18, 2023 by Gareth Hughes 8 Quote
slapathy Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 No 1 comment : 'That's a big violin, bet you can't get it under your chin. 'No, but I could get it under yours' Is a reply I've never made, but have heard suggested. 'Bet you wish you played the Flute' Is another one I get from time to time. Hmmm, do the maths; if I'd wanted to play the flute, I'd have brought...... a flute, not a Double Bass Quote

Duckyincarnate Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 Best one I ever got was as I was wheeling my bass down the road on its Bass Buggy: "Nice phone mate, from the 90s innit". 3 Quote
knirirr Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 Twice now in the same pub a mother with small children has wandered up to the jazz jam area and said something along the following to her children: "Do you know what that instrument is? It's a guitar! How about that one? It's a trombone! And what about that? It's a cello!" 1 Quote
Downunderwonder Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 I have a problem. Technically my Omni bass IS an electric cello, strung as a bass. Dammit. 1 Quote
