NancyJohnson Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Sitting listening to the BBC's Stereo Underground. 'No Time to be 21' by The Adverts comes on. Wife goes, 'Is this Weezer?'. Inside I'm laughing, but at the same time I'm thinking, feck, Weezer sound just like this. Quote
Jackroadkill Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Low hanging fruit perhaps, but... Oasis? Quote
BassTractor Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Is this the generic "sounds just like ..." as in that it might be about sound in the strict sense but also about chord progressions, melody lines and the rest? In that case, J-pop band Kanjani 8 have several songs that, whilst sounding nothing like Yes, do have compositional elements that make me go: no way they'd have done that without having listened to Yes. J-pop. I kid you not. Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Mmm... this could run and run . Queensryche = iron maiden / Judas Priest . Airforce = Ac/DC . Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Helloween = iron maiden Quote
Paul S Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 James Taylor and the James Taylor Quartet. They sound exactly the same. Apart from the extra word 'quartet', of course. 9 Quote
TheGreek Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 When Icehouse released "Hey, little girl" there were many people who thought it was Japan. 1 Quote
TheGreek Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 ...and who didn't think that "American Woman " by Guess Who was Led Zeppelin. Quote
upside downer Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Call me crazy, but I always thought that the Rutles sounded a lot like the Beatles. 1 1 Quote

Maude Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Not a band but a whole genre. American Punk Pop that those into it think is super cool, sounds just like it could be the latest Busted release, which those into American Punk Pop would hate. 1 Quote
Baloney Balderdash Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 (edited) Ween sounds like a lot of bands (yet at the same time just like only they can sound), here respectively Motörhead and Pink Floyd : Motörhead : Pink Floyd : I am also pretty sure they sound like some specific Country artist here, but not being very well versed in the Country genre I couldn't pinpoint exactly who: Edited December 17, 2023 by Baloney Balderdash Quote
Barking Spiders Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 All those US bands that came after grunge died which MTV used to show on rotation. All identikit clones Quite a few of them had 'three' or 'third' in their names All total ballcocks of course. 1 Quote

Certainly not the Beatles. To me Oasis sound like a load of Slade b-sides mixed up with some generic early-70s glam rock and stirred until a thick browny-grey porridge. Quote

These blokes however are clearly taking the absolute p. Quote
Paul S Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 This thread reminds me of the old joke: What's made of brass and sounds like Tom Jones? Trombones. 1 9 Quote
Delberthot Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 I was on the way to a gig with our guitarist and he put this on. I didn't recognise it so I asked if it was John Meyer. His reply was "John Meyer wishes he was this good". 2 Quote
Doctor J Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 I remember reading a review of this album when it came out. They described it as "the best AC/DC album since Back In Black" Quote
MacDaddy Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Any music released after the 90's sounds like something that was released before. 1 Quote
SumOne Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Lowrider sound a lot like Kyuss, I think they'd take that as a compliment. Also Bongripper with Electric Wizard. Quote
TheGreek Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Remember this album? Sounds like every 70s rock band. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLX66jEixZe1wlrDz9KCPiIYP0fdXMi-Rs&si=FUh7FG-ZJOaod4EO Quote
