neepheid Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 I've wanted a Yamaha BB1200 ever since I learned what Yamaha BBs were. Well now I have one. A 1978 model in natural, it has honest wear and bumps on it being 45 years old but it's sound as a pound and an absolute joy to play - thin frets on an ebony board, wide but not too chunky neck, it feels lovely. Sounds great too, reverse P be reversin'. This makes me feel fancy, in a similar way that my Wunkay does. I truly feel like I own one of the cornerstone basses of history. It weighs 9 and a half pounds, not too shabby for a late 70s bass. Enough chat, I'm off to play it some more! 38 Quote
TheGreek Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 Glad that you're done for the year...all 10 days that are left. I think that even I could go 10 days without buying a new bass😉😉 Oh, congrats on the new bass. Good choice. 1 1 Quote

Jaybeevee Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 That reverse P does deliver a lovely tone. The only Bass tone compliment I ever got (sad to say) was from my BB2000 Neck pick up, Tone at around 6. necks on these are solid too.. mine never moves. 2 Quote

Bassassin Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 That's a thing of beauty - I do love a through-neck BB. I don't really do Ps but I'd be all over that - I'd probably just lick it or something. 1 Quote

Happy to pay you 50p, won't even haggle, because it's Christmas time. Shall I send you my address for delivery? 😉 2 Quote
martin8708 Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Lovely stuff. I had both the tobacco burst and natural BB1200 , the TB was my very first bass , Yamaha Musikland was selling them off cheap .( 40 years ago ) Really regret selling it , I was convinced a Fender P was the bass to own 1 Quote
Rayman Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Awesome, really awesome basses those early BBs, I've had a few over the years. I had a beautiful BB3000S that I've regret selling many times over. 1 Quote
Misdee Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 (edited) These are indeed really superb instruments. That reverse P pickup seems to give such a good growl to these basses. Looking at that bass you can see what a beautiful shape these original BB basses were. They subsequently tweaked the body shape. I don't know why, because these basses look so elegant in their simplicity. Lots of top players used these Bb1200 basses back in the day. Lee Sklar, Abraham Laboriel, Paul Jackson ect. And the geezer out of Chas and Dave for that matter (also a good player, by the way.) Have a lovely Xmas putting your new bass through it's paces. I would like to think that you will be ripping some smouldering late '70s funk and disco lines on this beauty. And/or some Chas and Dave. Edited December 23, 2023 by Misdee 1 Quote
pn_day Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Nice. I have a 1979 BB2000 and it's a keeper! Enjoy the bass 1 Quote

NickA Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 Nice. I had a bb2000 for a few years. Funk monster. I sold it for £200 in 1998. Bad move. I'd buy another if I saw one. Reverse P is the only P worth having; if only more makers realised that. Through neck for a crisp sound and endless sustain. Marvellous. 1 Quote
