Lozz196
I’m going to try, aside from strings and works needed I’ve got everything I need so fingers crossed I can last this one out.

There are two basses in the market place I want, but emphatically don't need, so I'll nail my colours to the mast now. And hope I don't unexpectedly come into a grand or so.. 😁 I'm in. And on this thread too. 😊 1
diskwave
Easy. Take a tip from the classical world. Buy a half decent instrument then practise like ur life depends on it. No need to ever buy another instrument. Practise.

No need to ever buy another instrument. Practise. That quite happily worked for the first few years. But there is such an interesting variety of basses, different choices of tech, design, priorities, thought processes. It's not like a clarinet or a violin where the design is fixed. That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!
AndyTravis
Just bought some machine heads…I’m still in right? They’re to replace faulty ones. Nearly bought a pedal this morning…NEARLY.
ezbass
I’m wondering if a bow for a DB counts? Picks don’t and it’s not a huge leap to see the correlation. Asking for a friend .
Richard R
A bow is OK. So are ribbons, stickers, and flowers. But you will feel a bit daft at Symphony Hall with a DB looking like that. Edited January 2 by Richard R

I've seen violin bows with hairs hanging out of them before...

I'm gonna say that I think that falls under replacing something that's broken, and seems like a reasonable like for like replacement. I reckon you're still in. Careful with those pedal dalliances though!

neepheid
Holy effing hell, I had a look at double bass bows and nearly fainted at the price of some of them! I bloody hope they're not consumables!

In that case, I think a bow is gear, the hair isn't. That's my 2p, other opinions welcome (please do - I'm not the sole arbiter of this whole charade!)
Richard R
Just done my tax return. If I've got this right then HMRC owes me the nice @Andyjr1515 single cut that's for sale in the marketplace 😃 Or more likely the cost of the roof repairs following the high winds. ☹️ Edited January 2 by Richard R Bass has been withdrawn. Roof it is.
