My beloved Bergantino NV215 has shed the rubber on one of the casters. Jim Bergantino very helpfully let me know which caster they used on the NV but the US distributors cant send them to UK without charging $160 postage on a $17 item!

This one:

https://us.tchweb.com/products/511-2296854

I can find very similar online here but not quite

  • Screw holes are a different alignment
  • The "wheel arch" is a bit smaller and wont seal the cutout on the edge of the cab. Will the gap cause a problem with this being a sealed cab?

I've thought about just replacing the wheels as the axels pop out but can get the right diameter (75mm) but not the width (35-40mm)

Any help or advice appreciated!

Looking again I see the link leads to TCH Trans Canada Hardware with an office here in Toronto.  If you wish I could buy a pair and send them over to you. We'd need to sort out the money first. $22.50 Canadian each . I don't think that the postage would be anything near $180.

Thanks for that Paul! Let me see how I get on and I'll get back to you - much appreciated

I'd suggest dropping Penn-Elcom an email, they look to do ones identical to yours but in 50mm, might be worth asking if they can get the 75mm version?

They do some 75mm ones, but as you say the wheel is narrower. That wouldn't be a problem if the overall housing dimensions are right, but I don't know what yours measures. There are full measurements on the PE website.

Always thought bergantino were missing a trick by not putting tilt back casters on their 2x12 cabs and maybe a pull up handle on the 2x10 with casters.
hope you get it sorted.😊

Sorted!

So, having seen some similar ones that wouldn't have worked without compromising the sealed cab, I decided to go for the right sized wheels but on the wrong casters - these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153660566483

Removed the old ones, popped out the axel (held in place with a split collar)and placed on the new wheel which is the same size (75x32) as the old ones. The only guess work really was wether the axel would pass through the centre of the wheel but it's a perfect fit.

Thanks so much for the advise and particularly the offer of getting replacements bought and sent from Canada by @BassmanPaul in the true spirit of all that is great about this forum! Paul, I think I saved us a bit of hassle and myself some cash - total for the job was £17.99 and I've still got two spare wheels!

Smart move man, glad you got it sorted in the end! Think I would've done the same if I couldn't get the correct ones for a sensible price. 👌

MacGyver would be proud!

You saved me some money too 'cos I was considering buying the parts for you and shipping them to you at my cost. What's a couple of hundred bucks between friends. LOL

I was sent the link to this thread after looking for a replacement wheel, and I have done the same as you, with great results.... Now.... why did I not ask to buy your 2 spare wheels, now I also have 2 spare..lol.

Ha, I didn't think about that! I would have sent them for free. Come to think of it, I don't know where I've put them now....

Pleased to hear it worked out alright in the end👍

Shipping to the UK has almost doubled in the past 2 years, and the bigger challenge is dealing with UK customs which seems to be punitive to UK citizens. Add to this the VAT that applies on all costs including shipping and you have an unsustainable business model. The EU is similar though not a punitive. After my last battle with UK customs, where the paperwork was affixed to the package clearly marked, they returned it because of incorrect and insufficient paperwork, then lost the package. It mysteriously showed up at my shop 3 months later after their tracking showed that it never left the customs warehouse and customs washed their hand while shipping insurance refused to honor any coverage. Ultimately, after finally getting the amp back to the customer, he paid over $800 USD for a $150 repair (all due to charges and screw-ups at his end).

Because of this last experience, I can no longer offer international service (outside of North America) on Genz Benz products. It's a sad state of affairs, and likely to get worse before it gets better.
