Transport Help Please…….

Recommended Posts

Hi BC Gang,

Happy New Year. I require some help if at all possible. There a bass cabinet that I would love to buy, but it’s based in Blyth, Northumberland and I’m based in Penarth, South Wales.

I wonder if there are any BC’ers based in and around Blyth that travel to the Midlands for whatever reason? If so, and you find yourself having to travel to the Midlands, could we possibly chat about collecting said cabinet, and meeting me so I can collect it please? I will of course cover some costs incurred plus, buy you a coffee and bun when we meet, plus have my eternal gratitude.

I know it’s a long shot, but I’ve tried delivery companies and the cheapest so far is £148, and for me, it’s a 12 hour round trip so quite cost prohibitive too.

Thanks for reading, and take care. Cheers, Matt

Hi, yes I did. Came in at £148. Thanks for the reply. Appreciated

Wow. I must admit the initial prices are always high and then you get the "reasonable" prices as they all start undercutting each other but that quote seems really high.

Will non of the major delivery companies,DPD, DHL etc., do the job?

might be worth talking to @walshy he's not in Blyth but isn't that far away (certainly easy enough to get a cab to Hexham from Blyth) I know he is mainly shipping Basses but i'm guessing he has a good courier service available and may be able to help or at least advise.

It  might be worth giving some details of the cab that needs moving, size and weight might be a factor for some

Yup I can do that easily enough and my courier can arrange delivery too. Fire me a DM if I can help or ring Tim direct 07873 401907 and tell him I gave you his number

Tim is a thoroughly lovely chap, I have used his services a few times and it has always been a pleasure.

Something that might be worth considering, see if you can get a cheap travelodge or something. Drive, grab cab, sleep, drive home.

I’ve done that for grabbing some gear. And the dog. If you have a partner, take them with and have a wee jonty! My wife quite enjoyed the days out.

Sadly Tim, the driver in question, let me down very badly in failing to make an agreed pickup that was time critical, not bothering to tell me he'd missed it until I chased him, at which point by phone he agreed to cancel the job and refund, but then when chased again refused to refund by suggesting it was all my fault for being up tight in expecting collection on the day I'd paid £325 for him to collect. He then told me to take him to court because, quote 'He wins all his court cases'. Following my trying to resolve and us agreeing a settlement which covered his costs - which we pretty decent of me frankly - he still did not pay as agreed. He then, when chased for the final time, pulled the classic 'Can you be patient, I'm going through some personal issues' excuse. In short, he might be fine when things are going well, but when they don't, and like a few luthiers mentioned in other threads on this forum, he ducks out of his business responsibilities, tells lies, makes accusations, and blames others for his shortcomings.

@walshy is aware and tried very hard to resolve things.

If you choose to use this guy, you've been warned.

@Beedster has cut this story to a very short version. I know the ins and outs and I’m absolutely disgusted at the way he’s been treated, especially on my recommendation. I always try to help people out on here and in general, and can honestly say I haven’t had an issue with him.

However after this I won’t use his services again and have told him this.

So yeah, I’d strongly suggest to look elsewhere for your courier needs and not book with Tim. Again apologies @Beedster 😔

Mate, you did your best and I'm very grateful, especially as you were on holiday at the time. You tried to help the guy out as he built his business, which was good of you. It however says a lot about him that despite the high quantity of work your advocacy here had brought him, he still refused to act decently when things went wrong and you intervened to try and resolve. £325 is a lot of cash for a courier delivery, in fact it was £235 more than Shipley quoted, but I need the item picked up in a small window and he agreed to do that. I suspect that by keeping my £325 in the short term he's going to lose far more in the long-term. So be it, it was all his choice.
