stonevibe Posted January 6, 2024 Posted January 6, 2024 Please excuse my ignorance as I am a guitar player by trade. I have a nice Vintage V4 Bass (P-Bass-style thing) and I'm about to do some recording in the studio with it. I'm looking for suggestions on what to use as a mute for the strings. Currently, I'm using some foam for the job which you should be able to see in the image below. Are there any other things I could try that might yield better results? Felt, etc My reason for muting is that I want a vintage tone for the recordings, with minimal clank and to make the notes more percussive. I'll be playing with a pick, as I like that fast attack it gives the notes on more complex runs. 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted January 6, 2024 Posted January 6, 2024 I like the muted sound and I think I’ve got just about every mute you can buy, I’ve got a thread on them somewhere, but imo the foam does a great job especially on precisions with flats 1 1 Quote
Boodang Posted January 6, 2024 Posted January 6, 2024 Use memory foam in case you have to do a retake when you're recording. 5 Quote
