horrorshowbass Posted January 6, 2024 Posted January 6, 2024 Hi all my pre on my RBX775 has fried and looking for a new one. Its pretty niche. Vol tone 3 way selector and mid boost. Are there any aftermarket pres out there that fit the bill? Thanks Michael Quote
TRBboy Posted January 6, 2024 Posted January 6, 2024 Might be worth dropping Yamaha Music UK an email, just to see if there's spares still available (doubtful), but otherwise you've got 4 holes there, so any preamp that has 4 pots. Either vol/blend/2-band EQ or a 3 band with stacked treble and bass I guess. I really like the Glockenklang preamps, but Aguilar also really good and easy to install. Quote
horrorshowbass Posted January 7, 2024 Author Posted January 7, 2024 Thanks @TRBboy Never thought about more pots, only thought I had 2 to play with but looking at it holes all seem to be same size. 1 Quote

No worries! Easy enough to make the hole slightly wider if needs be anyway. I'm not sure if the recess for the mini toggle looks slightly smaller, but you can always use a smaller knob there. 👌 Quote
lemmywinks Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 (edited) East 3 knob might be a good option if you can fit the boards in the cavity as they're pretty big and connected to the pots. Edited January 7, 2024 by lemmywinks Quote
lemmywinks Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 (edited) Audere also cater for a wide variety of hole numbers, their pots are tiny and the preamp board is seperate so may be a better option, cheaper too if you just want their classic pre. Can have the mid freq as a switch or a two different controls for high/low. These look like they might fit: https://www.audereaudio.com/classic-vb-4b-4h-none.html https://www.audereaudio.com/classic-vb-3bsw-4h-none.html More expensive https://www.audereaudio.com/pro-z-vb-4b-4h-none.html Edited January 7, 2024 by lemmywinks Quote
Machines Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 Due to the preshape on the stock preamp anything else is likely to sound very different. I think an EMG would keep the general character though. 1 Quote
horrorshowbass Posted January 7, 2024 Author Posted January 7, 2024 Cheers lads My yech has ran it passive but its still cutting out so unfortunately PCB potentially banjaxed too 😥 Quote
Machines Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 Running it passive would bypass the PCB?. Quote
