mationdude
I just purchased 4 Hipshot USA Ultralite keys online from an "authorized" dealer. 3 of the keys have Hipshot USA branding but one just has a big "U" on it. The individual bags and model numbers are the same and the keys look ...almost identical but the feel is slightly different. Did I get sold a knockoff key? Downunderwonder
Seems likely unless they sell them like that with one U for Ultralite per set? If the three weigh in the same and the U is different I would be pretty darn sure it's a fake instead just nearly sure.
Downunderwonder
Exhibit A is the nearly the same shape peg box. No cigar.
Doctor J
I wouldn't accept it whether it was genuine or not. The different logo would drive me nuts.

bloke_zero
Probably just a mistake packing? I'd send them the picture and ask for a proper replacement.
BigRedX
Have you tried contacting Hipshot directly and seeing what they say?
neepheid
Could be a "licensed" tuner vs. the USA made one. Also, tuner companies do custom jobs for folk - look at these Gibson stamped Schaller M4S for instance... genuine Schaller M4S, just happen to have Gibson logo on them. That was my first thought too, but I couldn't think of any other bass company with a U other than the Kala U-bass (for which there are custom Hipshot-licensed tuners, incidentally, but they're not stamped with a U as far as I can tell). Doctor J
My old PRS had unbranded Ultrlites, so they do customise them for some brands but, either way, a mix of logos on the headstock is not what was ordered.

The licensed ones appear to have "Hipshot" on them, although Hipshot may have been lazy and used photos of their own products to illustrate the licensed ones. BlueMoon
I’ve found Hipshot customer service to be excellent. They will give you an explanation and sort it to your wishes, I am sure.
Manton Customs
That looks a lot like Utera basses logo. Guessing Hipshot made them some with their logo on perhaps?
neepheid
We have a winner, @Manton Customs! My guess is that the tuner is there by accident - should never have made it out to retail channels. Edited January 13 by neepheid
