BassAgent Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 You might recognize it: you crave for a certain bass, even if you know it's not meant for you. You don't like it, you'll never use it, it doesn't fit in your arsenal or some other reason. But still, you know you want one. I have that with fretted Stingrays. I know I don't use a Stingray in the bands I play in. I've owned a USA Sterling, which I really admired for the build quality and playability. I like their looks. I basically like everything about them, but still I won't buy one. I think. I think I should. But I don't want to. It's weird. 7 Quote
tegs07 Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Rickenbacker 4003 They look uncomfortable and slightly ridiculous but for some reason I want one. 7 Quote
SamIAm Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 I want a Strandberg* Boden 5 string brown. But at apx £3,500 they are a factor of 10 outside my affordability! Sam x 5 Quote
Lozz196 Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 (edited) I really want a Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas PJ IV. Not practical for me as can only do short scale basses nowadays but love the look of these. https://www.charvel.com/gear/shape/san-dimas-bass/pro-mod-san-dimas-bass-pj-iv/2963068595 Edited January 23, 2024 by Lozz196 4 Quote
spyder Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Any Ken Smith 5 string. It would be a total indulgence but so nice to own and play. 3 Quote
Reggaebass Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 I wouldn’t say I crave it but I’ve always liked the look of the Ida Nielsen signature, I don’t like gold hardware but it looks cool , I’m guessing I’d play it for a while then it would sit in the rack 5 Quote
AndyTravis Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 This. Or something close - possibly an RD artist too. Neither would sit right on me, but I love the Thunderbird and RD. 7 Quote
kodiakblair Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 I'd like one of those Italia basses with the 4 lipstick pickups. Boy in Stirling has one for sale, been asking £600 for it most of last year. That's twice what I'm prepared to pay 😀 3 Quote

baa Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 A Gibson Les Paul bass! Tried a number of them but the neck makes my wrist hurt after a few minutes. My wrists are bad because of work so I need necks to be shallow front to back. 4 Quote
itu Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Alembic Spider - weighs a metric ton - ergonomics, say what? - probably even worse to find a case than to a T-bird, an Original, or a C-bass (which would also be of interest) - price is around £toomuch 2 Quote

The case with mine weighed considerably more than the bass itself and that’s saying something. 3 Quote
hiram.k.hackenbacker Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 A Dingwall Lee Sklar Mk2 would be perfect. Had a Mk1, but it needed (for me) that third super fatty to move the playing position slightly forward. 2 Quote
StingRayBoy42 Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 I'm with @tegs07 on this - A Rickenbacker. I've no use for one, it wouldn't fit in any of my bands, they're so ugly it's beautiful... their only redeeming feature is that you can use the headstock as a bottle opener. I'd love one. 2 1 Quote

tauzero Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Ridiculously overpriced so I'll never have one: Marleaux Diva And for the one I'd love but would never play, a Spector 5-string, because I don't get on with the necks at all. 4 Quote
Jonesy Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Stingrays are mine too. They wouldn't fit in any band I'm in and I haven't got on with the necks on any I've played before. Really love listening to other people playing them though and am always tempted to give them a go! 1 Quote
MichaelDean Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 A Gibson EB-2 would be fun, but I'm not sure I'd use it enough to warrant owning it. 3 Quote
neepheid Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 I shouldn't want any basses this year, I'm supposed to be aff it! But if a Fender Modern Player Dimension bass (the one with the triplebucker) ever appeared in white at a knockdown price, my abstinence would be under severe threat! I wish Fender had stuck with it for more than a few years, I think the Dimension is a good looking bass. 2 Quote
ahpook Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 A Spector Doug Wimbish. Absolutely no need for it, but the idea of a jazz width Spector is very seductive. In black, obvs. Quote

Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 If Fender issued the JMJ Mustang in another colour, such as shell pink, it is practically guaranteed that I won't be able to resist ordering one. Quote
Machines Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Warwick Thumb 5. Totally not the sound my band needs but I really want to Brr Brr Deng. Quote
White Cloud Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Completely impractical for anything I've done, like, ever. Nonetheless, I recall starting out in the early days and hanging around the local library (I was wild back when): there was this picture in a book of some hippy playing one of these and, y'know ... Bass porn to an impressionable young lad 2 Quote
BigRedX Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Being a strictly 5-sting and Bass VI player these days there are plenty of basses that exist only in 4-string version which I like the look of but would never actually use if I owned them. If I had the money I'd buy a good example of each of those useless (to me) 4-string basses and get excellent luthiers to use them as templates to make me 5-string or Bass VI versions that I could use.
