sshorepunk Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 Has anybody done a comparison of 60’s vs 70’s Jazz pick ups in the same bass? one of my jazz basses has Aguilar 70’s p/ups in and it lacks something, in the mid range i reckon the 70’s wound p/ups are more suited to that era of jazz with the direct pick up position Wanting to try a more 60’s sounding pickup now i’ve had 60’s reissue jazz basses in the past and know what I’m after Any input would be appreciated Cheers Tony Quote
Lozz196 Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 I found that my 70s Precisions had a quite scoopy sound, more emphasis on lows & highs, maybe Jazz pickups follow the same pattern. Quote

Indeed 60's Fender P pickups are hotter and more mid focused than the 70's ones. But I haven't got any idea either if this goes for the J pickups as well. However I am quite certain that the respective pickups doesn't necessarily sound better in the corresponding basses. It's very much a matter of the specific individual instruments and personal preferences. Edited February 1, 2024 by Baloney Balderdash Quote
Dan Dare Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 J bass pickup locations have changed over the years, which also affects the sound. Quote
