Wait, not that I’m decreeing that anyone has to do such a thing, but Mark has a few bob and is a good sort, I just couldn’t see any info on that link, just a few rusty guitars and battered acoustics, meh… 1

There's a statement in the sale room notice. Knopfler intends to donate at least 25% of the total hammer price received to the British Red Cross Society and the Tusk Trust.
Cato
That auctioneer may be the most charismatic person I've even seen in my life Essentially all she's doing is reciting numbers but I'm absolutely mesmerised. Essentially all she's doing is reciting numbers but I'm absolutely mesmerised. I've been at a few auctions at Christie's and they are testosterone fuelled pugnacious affairs. Big male egos behind the hammer and swaggering in the room. Horrible environment. (I'm well aware not all auctions and auctioneers are like this though) This is very refreshing. As you say a charismatic auctioneer. A relaxed vibe, where everyone seems to be enjoying proceedings and blimey aren't the prices soaring! Over half a million after fees for that one a few minutes back!

Going to an auction preview and then the auction itself is worth doing, and if you are not buying it is free. If you are buying, it is very much not free.
Burns-bass
Frightening. Obviously a monster player and a good egg, but my god, some people have some cash to spend. $65,000 for an 80s Les Paul? World's gone mad...

Oh, I don't know if the world is any madder for doing this kind of thing. Some people have more money than others. Some have more talent and renown than others. In this case, the latter is being rewarded by the former, and a couple of charities get a decent chunk of the proceeds. Is that really such a terrible redistribution of values?

steantval
Some serious money changing hands here, his four nominated charities will do well from 25% of the proceeds. Christies have announced they will also donate £50k to each of the four charities.

jonno1981
Im equally glued and astonished. I get the feeling some of these are genuine never played, back of the cupboard guitars that are now worth x20 the going rate as they’re attached to the main man.
