lidl e Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 Is it Megalomania or Wheels of Confusion? Quote
lidl e Posted February 13, 2024 Author Posted February 13, 2024 Dang. Maybe it's Thrill of it All. It's almost certainly on Sabotage whatever it is. 1 Quote

Sabotage is my favourite Sabbath album, in fact it's possibly my favourite album ever, but I think Geezer's best work is on the earlier one-take albums with little in the way of overdubs or extravagant production. I'll probably go for Master Of Reality as Geezer's finest hour, the whole album is one long bass solo. Edited February 14, 2024 by Cosmo Valdemar 2 Quote
Skybone Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 Difficult one, as there's so many. My favourite album is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, but I still think the bass intro to N.I.B. is still superb, and the bass sound captured is brilliant (IMO). Notable mention for the song "No More Tears". 3 Quote

Can't argue with the groove on Lord of this World though Quote

I listened to the song The Warning in headphones the other day and his bass tone is impeccable. Literally perfect. Same sessions as NIB so likely all the same kit 2 Quote
Doctor J Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 It's Spiral Architect, but thanks for asking. 2 Quote

Doctor J Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 (edited) I also have a lot of love for All Moving Parts (Stand Still). Funky Geezer. Edited February 14, 2024 by Doctor J 2 Quote

I dont love the strings arrangement on this tune, personally. Of the big 5 Sabbath Albums (ozzy era not including Technical ecstasy [weak] and Never say Die [also not great to me]) sabbath Bloody sabbath is my least favourite because of some of the production choices. Although Sabra Cadabra is maybe ozzy's second finest moment (after hole in the sky) Quote
dmccombe7 Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 Heaven and Hell album for me. Loved the bass lines and his tone was IMO perfect. Dave 4 Quote

megallica Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 Slipping away from Mob rules must be in the mix here. 🤔 3 Quote

It's a shame the rest of the song is a Custard Pie ripoff. Quote
Baloney Balderdash Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 (edited) Try doing a Google search of "Black Sabbath", the top result with pictures of the members credits Ronnie James Dio for Vocals, while Ozzy Osbourne is credited for Harmonica. la bam Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 Epic player. Tasteful, toneful, melodic and musical. As a kid it was bassically, nib then warning that got me into soulful bass. Meandering around, they're a work of art. Quote
NAS Bass Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 I always get a kick from Paranoid. Simple, punchy, characteristic little runs and one of the first things I played as a kid. 1 Quote
Misdee Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 Well, there's no bad Geezer Butler bass playing, but for me the Heaven And Hell/Mob Rules era was his zenith. I have always thought the albums after Paranoid up until when Dio joined the band really suffered from Geezer's bass being way too indistinct and lost in the mix. You can hardly hear what he's doing most of the time. The first two albums and then the ones from Heaven And Hell onwards you can make out every note. Quote

Mob Rules sounds fantastic only Sabbath Album I bought back in the day. 1 Quote
Paul S Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 Hard to highlight any one particular bit of playing in such a long career filled with such consistency but I especially love the playing at the start of Fairies Wear Boots. Quote
