Bassfinger
So not stolen from Abbey Road on or around 21st January 1969, along with one of George's guitars? It's all a bit confusing. Fair play, if it is the one he must be pretty chuffed.

Downunderwonder
I wonder how many dropkicks had it before it was forgotten to be the Beatle one? Maybe none and the whole "collection" is some now dead thief's stash.

The Sun is publishing 'fake news'. 🫨 There's an entire production line at Hofner turning out stolen Macca basses. It's like the fragments of the true cross - Jesus would have needed a low-loader to have carried a cross weighing 65 tonnes.
bass_dinger
There was an interview this morning on the Radio 4 Today programme, with the journalist who tracked it down. In brief, in 1972, the Wings roadie parked the van outside his house on Ladbroke Grove. Local squatter broke into the van, stole a bass. A few days later, he realised that it belonged to McCartney, and asked his friend (a local pub landlord) to look after it for him. 50 years later, the bass was inherited by a decendant of the same landlord, having spent the intervening period in the loft. The benefactor heard the story of the missing bass in the news, made contact with the McCartney estate, and it is now back with its rightful owner. The investigation was helped when a relative of the thief contacted the journalist, and was able to identify the pub. TimR
Wonder if it's playable. 50 years in a loft, going to need a bit of truss rod love.

Having laboured to the end of the slightly nerdy history of the bass I thought they said it's uniqueness was the domed back.
