2pods Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Oh, right. Thanks. I thought it might have some fretless sim Quote

2pods Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I think there are a few, but the only one I've found that was really good was in the long discontinued, Roland VB99. Which needed a GK2/3 hex pickup on your bass 1 Quote

I've been using a Rusty Box for close to 15 years now and didn't realise there were alternatives til seeing these discussed here. But yeah, the boost is unusable, I've never touched it! 1 Quote
neepheid Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Got a new preamp/EQ/OD/DI - adding a noise gate and a compressor allowing me to consolidate down a touch. Got its first live run at the weekend and it performed very well. The pre/post/dry switch gives levels of OD at the flick of a switch - that's maybe not what it's for, but that's the effect it has. It's louder when the OD happens first then the EQ is applied to the overdriven signal as opposed to the other way around. Pretty impressed with it. Versus the Monomyth it has replaced, we have less flexibility in the EQ (less bands, no shelving), no headphones out (not as useful as it might seem as there's no aux in) and no cab sim on the DI (but gain an independent level control and an OD/EQ bypass) 3 Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I've been intrigued by these for ages, so when one popped up on ebay for £20 - I couldn't say no lol Quote

How would you categorise the drive? Is it like the crayon, or more Hot tubes in character? Quote

Is it like the crayon, or more Hot tubes in character? I don't know what either of those things sound like, sorry! I'm only on my fourth OD ever so I really don't have a huge array of experience to draw on. I've only had a Bass Soul Food (which I didn't really care for), a Mojomojo (which I really liked) and the drive in the Monomyth (which I also really liked). This one's a bit different to those two, definitely wanders into Distortion territory beyond OD if you crank it, but it can be used more subtly. Best I can offer you is the video I put up in the "how was your gig?" thread this week - that was the T-bird and the Battalion's drive was on, pre-EQ for maximum effect. Sounded pretty meaty to me! MrDinsdale Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Finally get to have a play with the DCX Bass, loving the EQ mode for some light touch tone sculpting 👌 6 Quote
Chadu25 Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 (edited) My last minute year end purchase. I’ve been on the hunt for this thing! I’m surprised that even though these are hard to come by, they are not overpriced in the 2nd hand market. Got it for $180 from talkbass. Planning on pairing this with my Neptunium for a 2 pedal micro board project. Going for a simple board that gives me access to a clean Noble tone and a B15 amp sound Happy Christmas bass friends! SimonK Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Been meaning to get this all year to replace a little euro-rack mixer - the pedal allows three separate loops (and critically has a phase switch), which means in the rack I can have guitar preamps on #1 & #2 and a bass preamp on #3. Spent a happy afternoon behind the rack wiring it all up. 3 Quote

ProjeKtWEREWOLF Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 (edited) I have an Empress Bass Compressor arriving tomorrow (£217 from Juno). I was agonising between that and the Source Audio Atlas. I figured that the Empress would have better longevity, given that it doesn't rely on external app support etc. I hope I don't regret my decision. Edited December 30, 2024 by ProjeKtWEREWOLF Quote
jimbobothy Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 … I’m having that battle in my head at the moment regarding app support! In 5 years time will be digital stuff still be supported?? My analogue stuff will stiff work as good as it ever will long after I’m gone though lol!! 1 Quote
Killerfridge Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I'm just relying on the fact the defaults on the Atlas are all very good and useable 1 Quote
neepheid Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 It's not as if it'd stop working if the apps (and remember it's on computer as well as phone/tablet) suddenly become unavailable - you'd just be stuck with whatever parameters are in there. Just as well so far I've been delighted with the default Toneprint in the Spectracomp! I'm pretty sure that some enterprising person would step in and create something if TC Electronic ever ditched their Toneprint technology. USB isn't going anywhere any time soon. 2 Quote

I love the idea of the Atlas though. Missing out on functionality because an app is no longer supported is a bit disappointing. Quote
