Left to right…..

Tokai, Greco, Tokai.

I absolutely love my black Tokai to bits… so much so, that I bought a white one today, and a sunburst 1990 Greco yesterday. The Greco will have its proper truss rod cover back on soon.

Bring on the gigs.

Addictive aren't they and I'm pretty much hooked!

I've always had a soft spot for them but until I pull the trigger on the Orville, I've never had a go on one. So after the Orville came the Non Reverse Gibson and then the Greco TB900 which in my very humble opinion is the coolest bass I've ever owned. Probably could do with a good set up but for now it's fine for me and it sounds absolutely huge!. I took the Non Reverse to an audition a couple of weeks back and it sounded wonderful and got some very favourable comments from the band, second audition this Tuesday and I might take one of the others as well.

Nice basses sir. Yes this Greco I have here is a very cool bass indeed. Very old school vibes, beautifully made…. what I didn’t know was that the previous owner has stuck an active Bartollini circuit in it, with a concentric pan/tone control. I didn’t know that was there until I picked it up. At this point I don’t know how I feel about it, other than the bass sounds incredible, and the output is ridiculous. There’s a little trim pot in there that I had to turn right down because it was driving the amp too hard.

It’s had a full clean and setup with new strings, and plays great.

Gig tonight, and I only plan on taking the one bass, so I’ll report back tomorrow.

Absolutely outstanding last night. The bass is perfect, so no alterations required. Just the white one to fettle now, with a James’ Home Of Tone look, and that’ll be that.

Meanwhile I picked up this really lovely Thunderbird pro in Trans Black….. through neck, active….. couldn’t resist swapping out the obligatory Jin Ho tuners (I must have at least half a dozen sets in my bits boxes) for a lovely set of Hipshot Ultralights….

Tokai…. same mods as the black one.

Three very different basses in terms of feel and tone, although the Tokais are obviously similar.

Really great players….. neck dive? Yep, not bothered really, and they sound fantastic. Awesome live.
