Matching the strap to the bass?

Recommended Posts

No. Black comfort strap for my basses with straplocks, and the widest strap available for those without.

Although for rehearsals it's which strap scrunches up best to fit in the gig bag pocket.

Red Leathergraft comfy suede straps to match the Competition stripes on my orange Squier Mustang Guitar and Bass twins, and a brown comfy strap for the Epiphone Firebird.

Extra long comfy straps in black and beige for my worn black and natural Epiphone Casinos. Also shown is an Ace strap in the same design John Lennon used on the Apple Corps rooftop with his casino, it is a cool looking strap, but I don't use it as its not as comfy as the comfy.

My Vintage statesboro parlour guitar which plays and sounds infinitely better than can be expected for the £30 I paid for it has a Levy's 'Hootenanny' strap which doesn't match on colour, but I like the design, and I guess a bourbonburst acoustic can probably go with anything. Also my Ben Gibbard Mustang looking very dapper with another black leathergraft comfy strap which goes nicely with the plastics.

I used to coordinate my straps with my instruments. But these days, I value comfort over looks, (not to mention, I can count on zero hands the number of times my strap design/colour choice has been complimented), so I use plain black neoprene straps such as the Neotech Megastrap or Comfort Strapp on my main basses.

EDIT: Oh and FWIW, I have a strap permanently attached to every bass. I was an advocate of strap locks for years until the supplied button strap screw on my Attitude kept working loose. . I got fed up tightening it up again all the time and realised I had a dedicated strap for each bass, so why am I taking them off and putting them on all the time?  I figured the issue was the screw thread was slightly different to the original (which wouldn't fit in the strap button).

I replaced the straplocks with the original buttons and screws, attached the strap and put on some rubber washers. It's been rock solid ever since. I did the same to my other basses, and continued to do so on every new bass since as I believe the simple act of taking a wood screw out and putting it back in weakens the thread. If I don't touch the screw, it won't fail.

Every bass with its strap, and to every strap, a bass.*

I tried to convince my girlfriend of that motto because I have more straps than basses, but she's not buying into it

I have the blue Perri's strap on my Pelham blue Jack Casady.

The blue against blue, and sheepskin against cream plastics couldn't match better if it had been designed for this bass. Even the tan suede rear is a nod to the browns of the knobs and natural woods.

I remember when you bought this strap. I liked it so much I got an identical one for my Jack Casady. Even though my bass is black.

I'm searching for a strap that somewhat matches my dark purple Music Man Silhouette Special... I'm having a hard time so far! I may end up just going black...

Ended up ordering a Souldier strap in purple, with the plain option (without decorative garments over their standard seatbelt material). They offer choice of 23 different seatbelt colours and 21 different colours for the leather end tabs (or 15 shades of vinyl if you want it to be vegan). I went with purple leather end tabs. I'm really happy with it, it matches the colour of my guitar pretty well and I think it looks great!

I had this strap made for my Lego bass. Annoyingly the maker isn't on Amazon anymore, otherwise there's another couple of designs I'd have them make up  😡

All my Fenders and Squiers must have Fender straps (they don't do squier ones 🤨). This one on my AVII 1960 P has a period correct Fender logo 😁 so counts as coordinated!

I just want to run a quick straw poll, what would you put with an Olympic White P-Bass with a tortoiseshell pickguard?

Black strap or, a burgundy strap?
