With out knowing the exact budget, its difficult to gauge what "cheap" is. However, if weight is not too much of an issue, it seems to be a great time to buy quality used bass cabs. Many seem to be downsizing or going down the super-light-weight route, so there always seems to me to be a few bargains to be had on the older heavier (in some cases not so heavy) cabs.

Second hand epifani ul212.

Love mine, fairly light. 4 ohm. Very very loud.

I would guess that not spending very much would mean rather less than £600-700.

Hi everyone

thanks for all your input. I think I’ll look out for a more powerful amp and sell what I have. There are a few options on sale now that I am looking at.

How about this?  Certainly cheap and Cardiff not too far from Somerset.

I gigged a cheap 300-watt Ashdown MAG series head for years, so I wouldn’t dismiss 250w as too quiet.

+ 1 on the Genz Benz 212tx. Great cabs, lightweight and about £350 secondhand if you can find one.

I wouldn’t bother spending money on boutique niche cabs. Plenty of good reasonable kit out there.

Good luck with the quest!

I giiged a MAG 15” combo for years, it was fine then but I would not use it now. The head would be fine with a decent cab. What represents a decent cab is of course a matter of taste.
