sblueplanet Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Saw a little trailer for the upcoming Sting 3.0 tour and grabbed a screenshot showing Sting using what looks like a new custom Fender. I'm not familiar with him playing this before as usually been his beat up '54 P for years now. This one doesn't look like a vintage P with humbucker but something maybe made to order. I'll leave it to the Fender experts to fill in the details. 😄 1 Quote
Delberthot Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 It looks similar to a Telecaster II but with the mudbucker in the regular split P position 1 Quote

Same as in the current production Squier Paranormal Rascal : Also that bass appears to not just be a slab body like the original Telecaster Bass, but actually feature contours. Chrisan2 Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 My first thought was a telecaster bass, but the pickup position is wrong Quote

Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 If it does become a new signature edition, the signature won't be on the back of the headstock like a normal person's there'll be a highly visible pearloid block inlaid into the fingerboard at the twelth fret with his signature displayed prominently on it. 6 Quote

I am glad that does not come in 5 string format. Quote

Chrisan2 Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Also the string tree is closer to the nut than on a standard tele head stock and although it’s a little blurry does that head shape looks like it has a slight point at the bottom of the round end. Is it a Fender? Quote

Is it a Fender? Again another blurry image of the headstock. Can't see a Fender decal in this one so maybe a one-off by a luthier? Edited March 15, 2024 by sblueplanet Quote
Pea Turgh Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Maybe he got in to modding Harley Benton PB 50s? I jest, but that would be awesome. 1 3 Quote

ikay Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 (edited) Thanks. From the shape of the pickguard it looks very like a 70s Telecaster with the pickup moved to the P position. Agree the headstock shape is a little pointier so maybe a custom build rather than a modded 70s Tele. Edited March 16, 2024 by ikay 1 Quote
Chrisan2 Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 I spoke with Bernard at Fender , he was very helpful and found out it is a Fender custom shop build for Sting. 5 1 Quote

Chrisan2 Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Check out sting’s Facebook he just posted and mentioned his new bass and giving his old one “ a sabbatical”. Quote
Chrisan2 Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Ohh same clip is also on instagram now if fender did a release of these( not custom shop) would you buy one ? Quote
NJE Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 I would buy that bass, interesting pickup choice and I always loved the look of the 70s telecaster basses but not the pickup by the neck. Come on Fender, or better still Squier! 😄 2 Quote
