It took me half a dozen rays to get to that realisation. Love the Ray tone just can't get on with playability.

I have to come clean and clarify that my Stingray is my most favourite bass ever. However, the L2000 is just as good, and that's a USA Ray vs a tribute G&L. I can only imagine that a USA G&L would be amazing.

I've got two US 3EQ Stingrays, one fretless, one fretted. I really like the 3 EQ setup as it is the most powerful onboard EQ I've played. My only regret is that neither have roasted maple necks. The necks on mine are fine, but there is something about the way Musicman roasts a neck that is just aesthetically awesome:

I was watching the "five watt world" episode on the Stingray on YT earlier & they said that SUB stands for"Sports Utility Bass" & I really hope that's true.  :)

It stands for Stingray's Ugly Brother.

My US Musicman Sterling had dead spots, so look out for those.

my stingray plays like butter but without the dead spots ..do you think it might be fake?

And certainly don't mention that there are (mostly) second-hand basses that are a good match for a Stingray. Looking at you;

•Ibanez ATKs- or anything else with that Triple Coil pickup.

•Warwick $$, Fortress MasterMan, Streamer Pro M etc.

• Various G&Ls such as the L1000, L2000, ASAT

All of them sport "that growl", or their own version of it.

The L2000 is the biggest secret hiding in plain sight in the bass world.

It does EVERYTHING!

That guts me as I had a clf l2000 and just couldn't get it to do anything with my bands at that time. Shame because maybe it would work with my current ones. And they're too expensive to take a gamble on.

Fear not dude, the tributes are fantastic and can be bought for under £500. Recently saw an l2500 on ebay for £375.
