Had one years ago.  I changed the black plate out for an aged white one and it looked even better.  Brilliant necks on them, bit barky/boomy but brilliant bass nonetheless.  The grain on yours in particular is stunning

The neck is indeed great. Only messed about with it but it feels great to play. Thanks for the tip on the pick guard.
It has a coil tap installed which is a common upgrade I believe.

I used to have one of these.  Great neck.

 

I rewired the humbucker(s) from series to parallel to make it a bit less boomy.  Presumably the coil tap on the OPs is taking one of the pickups out of the circuit for a similar result
