Sadly selling up

Recommended Posts

Good morning,

just a quick question, please be kind. Having been diagnosed with terminal cancer, it looks like I will be selling all my gear,in the very near future.

My question{s} are, is Basschat the best place for me to sell, and if so, how do I go about it,fees etc?

Thanks for your kind assistance

Best regards

Ray

I'm very sorry to hear your news, and well aware that it's coming for all of us in due course.

"Best" is one of those words. Basschat is "best" financially if you want a single (very modest) fee to then sell without limit for a year. Given your circumstances, that would be a good fit. It's also "best" if you want knowledgeable buyers who (in the main) are not time-wasters, tyre-kickers or low-ballers. Essentially, selling on Basschat is a more pleasant - or less unpleasant - experience than most.

eBay and Gumtree are "best" if you want to reach the largest audience, or possibly if you live in a remote or obscure part of the country. I've heard Beds called many things, but not remote or obscure.

I'll asl @Kiwi or @ped to jump in with the registering-as-a-seller thing; it's been so long since I did that. 🙄

Thanks Jack, much appreciated. I will do my best to give eBay and gumtree a miss, as you say, selling on here seems more pleasant, and less prone to

scammers I would guess. I have purchased several items on here in the past and have always had a happy outcome, although never attempted to sell.

Thanks again

Best regards

Ray

Ray, very sorry to hear about your situation. Yes, this is the best place to sell bass gear if you take all factors from the selling fees to the scale and demographic of the marketplace (a bunch of GAS freaks) to the low risk of being messed about into account. If you have any issues at all it's a community and things tend to get solved without too much hassle, but if hassle emerges the mods tend to be highly supportive also 👍

Very sorry to hear your news, I don’t sell much, that’s why I’ve acquired so much gear 😁, but over the years I’ve had only very good experiences with buying and selling and no problems whatsoever , good luck 🙂

Very sorry to hear this Ray, in answer to your question Basschat is a great place to sell gear, I`ve bought/sold since I joined in 2009 and have never had a bad experience.

I can't give any advice as to the best place for selling gear (though I have bought an item on Basschat with no problems), but I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and would like to wish you the best.

Sad news Ray, and thoughts are with you and yours. Make the most of life and spend it with the people that matter.

Basschat, is absolutely a great place to buy and sell. The best thing about the site, is that one can ask for any advive, on any subject, and you will get help.

It's worth noting that gear doesn't necessarily sell quickly here, but you are dealing with mostly fair and honest folk, and less likely to get any time wasters.

All the very best.

So sorry to read your news Ray.

I would totally recommend making Basschat your first port of call for selling. It's a fantastically supportive community of like minded people. A much better experience than the wild west that is eBay and FB Marketplace.

Very best wishes.

Ah man. So sorry to read this.

To echo, here is a decent place. Doesn’t always sell quick but people are generally decent. Think I’ve only had one experience where I was irked.

Facebook groups can be okay too, just have your wits about you.

Sorry to hear this Ray .
A lot of stuff is slow moving ,due to cost of living crisis etc .

I have sold a few basses and things on Basschat ,with no issues at all . Selling things like vinyl records though, I found fleabay the best . I don't do farcebook, or bumtree, and haven't really heard any positives about selling stuff on those platforms . Others may not concour , but it's just my experiences.

I had 2 basses for sale last year on Basschat . When I decided to hold onto them , I then got a couple of enquiries .

The only thing I'd be wary of on Basschat , is if there is an enquiry from someone that's had hardly any posts . That' could be me very extra careful though .

Best of luck,on your journey also .

Hi Ray, I'm sorry to hear about this dreadful news.

I'll flick you a PM so we can discuss offline.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis,  Ray.

Personally I'd be looking to explore every possibility to move your gear on. Why put all your eggs in one place?

Even though there are many great people here I've had gear sit here without any interest - especially niche gear - for months.

Gumtree and Preloved are both free so as long as you insist on cash on collection only you can't really go wrong.

You know that you have a limited time here, make the most of it.

I am so so sorry to read this. I'm sure we're all at an age where we consider this often but to come face to face with it is so unfair and an awful consequence of the privilege of being. I hope you find peace.

I'd say you dont need to be dealing with questions and packing and shipping. Might you have a local shop that will take your gear on consignment? If you have a nice collection I'm sure you could get fair terms amd then you wouldnt have to deal with the hassle of selling.

Sadly, I had a similar diagnosis 3 weeks ago Ray. I've already started selling stuff, to raise a bit of cash and to save the Mrs from being left with the job of disposing of things she doesn't fully understand. This forum is probably your best bet, depending on what you're selling. I put my Noble preamp up for sale on here a couple of weeks ago, it sold in 6 minutes! I'll be keeping 1 bass, 1 amp and 1 speaker though, to bequeath to my grandson in an an attempt to dissuade him from becoming a guitarist, and just in case an unprecedented miracle occurs......meanwhile, I'm concentrating on living in the moment. Good luck with it all.

Sorry to hear of these diagnoses.

As well as BC, there are some bass specialist shops that could be worth sounding out - Bass Direct, Bass Bros, The Bass Gallery. The first two are quite close to each other, in Warwick and Leamington Spa respectively.
