Pretty goo, apart from missing the end harmonics, totally. It's a tenth position finger-on with the index finger, and the harmonics over the thirteenth with the pinkie.

Don't ask me.  I don't even know why Jaco did it.  This for me is a bit like the emperor's new clothes - everyone goes along with it until a little boy points and laughs.

Indeed, the piece stands or falls on the end harmonics. Such a shame to ruin it that way.

I've seen a couple of versions on YouTube.

The Vintage Modified series were fantastic. I still miss my VM 70s Jazz.

Looking at the video the player hasn't got any head or shoulders, so nowhere to hang a strap. Therefore playing it on the floor.

 

But as to the qusetion why? Jaco is dead, so I guess we'll never know.
