Songs that you hate with a passion

Relating to my thread about "Stairway to Heaven on bass" - I sent the link to a guitarist friend who replied "aren't you sick to death of that song?".

Well TBH, yes....but there are other songs which I could quite happily never listen to again.

Firstly, "Hey Joe" - the Hendrix version, the full length version of Layla, including the 4 hour piano solo - by Eric Clapton and (for now) "A Bat out of hell" - actually anything on that whole album - by Meatloaf.

IMO the world would be a much better place if none of these were ever played again.

Your turn...

Sorry only just seen this thread. I agree will all but Hey Joe but then I have never had to play it in a band.

Indeed, I too love Son of a Preacher Man. I also love White Rabbit, which is getting a right kicking in this thread.

Maybe cos they can't play like Jack Cassady.

The Zutons original or the Amy Winehouse cover? I'm with you all the way on the Winehouse cover but the original's bassline is great fun!

The song only really makes sense if its sung by a man, especially if you know the back story.

Also Does Your Mother Know, one of the weaker and less well known Abba songs but guitarists always seem to pick it. Hated playing it years ago and our new guitarist is trying to get it into the set, why would you pick that over all the great Abba songs that fill a dancefloor?

If you play a lot of rocky type covers that one fits best IMHO

I have to agree, whilst I don’t dislike Teenage Kicks there are much better songs from The Undertones, You’ve Got My Number, Wednesday Week, Julie Ocean to name a few which are all quite different showing just how good a band they were.

I've got the debut and follow up albums and Teenage Kicks is the only track I skip. Many of their best tunes are album cuts like the cracking Hard Luck

Come On Eileen - 42 years later and I still have no idea what the little curly haired fella is on about.

Anything by:

Scouting For Girls - how they managed to get a record deal with that utter drivel is beyond me.

Lewis Capaldi - music to swing by your neck to.

George Ezra - it appears that nursery rhymes set to beginner chord structures are popular with the kids these days.

Radio gets turned (punched) off whenever any of these start playing.

Many years ago, I watched a documentary about UB40. It was probably made because the Campbell brothers dad was a famous folk musician. Anyway, they had only released two albums I think at the time. They said we won't sing love songs. We sing about real life struggles and oppression and all that stuff that's important when you are young. If you ever hear us singing love songs, you know we have sold out.

I guess they sold out then.

Seen, but in their defence they got a lot of royalties paid to the composers of the songs they covered. Many of them were skint, having been ripped off by the original producers. Labour of Love, cheesy as it was in my (our) opinion was just that.

Big Beatles fan here, we do a lot of their songs and most people know and sing along to them. Which, considering I live in France, is a bonus. Most of France only wants to hear French songs by Johnny Hallyday and the like.

A bar owner loved our Beatles set but asked if we could do his favourite.

Yes, you guessed it. Yellow Submarine...!!

Had to grit my teeth for that one....

The one Beatles track I cannot stand ...Eleanor Rigby ! I had the misfortune of seeing Jack Bruce play that as the last track of his set .

Traumatising !

Time to pick on Metallica I think ...Nothing Else Matters and that awful track with Marianne unfaithful! La la la my ar£e ! ( the memory remains )

Seriously, get a life folks, we’re supposed to be grown ups on this site, I simply don’t get how any sensible mature person can hate a song?

Oh hang-on, that f***ing awful Elton John/ Dua Lipa mashup. I f***ing hate that song

I don't think anyone has mentioned Rock DJ by Robbie Williams yet. Sounds like the cleaner was playing around on the desk and they came in in the morning and went "f*** it, that'll do. Robbie, can you mutter some shit over the top and let's rinse those idiots for as much as we can get". It also spoilt what was potentially the greatest piss ever after 5 hours stuck on a bus. The relief, the joy, but wait a minute, what's that on the tinny speakers? Rock f***ing DJ. In a small Bolivian bus station. I couldn't get away from it! And that is why, although there are many others that I deeply dislike, including plenty mentioned here, only Rock DJ rises to hate. It's personal.

Oh, and Reggaeton. That whole thing can just die, immediately. Nonsense with absolutely nothing to redeem it.

Back in '85 I was on holiday in Portugal . However 1985..live aid . Plus one of the most played videos ever " money for nothing " Dire straits . Along with live aid vids being played everywhere and Madonna who I've always detested.
Forward onto later years, I don't hate Money for nothing , but cannot stand walk on by , by dire straits . That to me is tedious .

probably  because of the keyboard sound

not wishing to sound like a smart arse, as some on here seem to take great delight in, do you mean Walk of Life? yes it can get tedious after prolonged exposure

Hate is a strong word for something as simple as a song. I'll happily play most things if my bands want to play them and the audience want to hear them However there are a few songs i just can't bring myself to because of irrational lyrics. If you write a song called Ironic then there should be some examples of irony rather than just misfortune in the song. Carly Simon you can't write a song about someone and then call them out for recognising that you are pointing a great big finger at them. They may well be vain but 'probably thinking the song is about them' isn't the thing that makes them vain.

This is my personal madness, my wife gets worked up at misplaced apostrophe's :)

Don't look back in anger

Everybody needs somebody (actually anything by the Blues Brothers)

I do look back in anger, wishing that someone had advised Noel and Liam to  pursue alternative careers.
