New bass project…. Making a Wal mk1

Well maybe not making more modding a squier to become one 

 

new turner pickups and a underhill tone circuit ( based on what’s in a mk1 wal ) 

 

dong have a pic of the circuit yet as it’s on it was from the us

completed the other bass have made a thread on here about that one tho!! 
 

so now onto the main event

 

 

and the pickups are in pre amp later tonight! 
 

im liking the no pickguard look aswell

It’s had it for a while now, it had  the original Jazz pickup for a little while

It’s turning out really well! More pics tonight once I’ve fitted the preamp

Nice! I’m doing the same at the moment except with the Lusithand NFP Special.

 

 

Just need to strip everything off and take all the copper tape out of the cavities ready to route it next week. Need to make a new scratch plate and fix a few dents well I’m at it too, very excited to get it all sorted 🙌

 

@0175westwood29 Did you go for the Original or English voiced version?

Looks excellent 👌 excited to see how it sounds! How did you decide on placement? Did you eyeball it or go with any specific measurements?

Yeah makes sense. I’ll be doing the same I think but balancing the placement so it looks right with the scratch plate. Thankfully the P-Bass scratch plate sits pretty low so shouldn’t be an issue with getting them close to the bridge 🙌

Love these! I have an ambition to mod something with multi coils and a filter pre amp at some point. This is definitely adding to the temptation.

So many people making Wal clones!  Wals sound great, I live them myself,.. but you don't see anyone much playing them these days.

Doesn't sound like my Wal at all.   Then again, mine has no frets and doesn't get played with a pick 🤔.

 

More fun than a squire Jazz bass tho ...

Great sounding pickups and preamp, very punchy. Not sure it sounds exactly like a Wal but sounds excellent regardless.

Sounds great Andy!  Yes, pulling the filter pot goes to a higher peak boost. Both the low and high settings are adjustable. Set to 3dB/10dB by default, can go up to 13dB.

There must be something to replace those wood screws mounting the pups?

Slight Dome Scratch Plate type screws?
