BottomEndian Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Ladies and gentlement, I submit to you the worst relic job I've ever seen. Custard appears to have been involved in the process. Quote
lemmywinks Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Looks like he's stuck chewing gum to the body then held a lighter under the headstock. Oh dear... Quote
BottomEndian Posted May 16, 2009 Author Posted May 16, 2009 Hats off to him for at least owning up to the fact it's a Squier, after he's gone to the effort of replacing the decals. The custard seems to have crept into the neck joint too. Do you think it might improve sustain? Quote
Delberthot Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Couple of things - 'reliced' as a word is wrong If you're going to relic a bass at least try to find pictures of a bass that's had it done naturally over time Lastly, I like custard Quote
skankdelvar Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 I'd love to know the real world circumstances in which the back of a headstock would catch fire. Toasting marshmallows, maybe? Quote
Ou7shined Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Struck by lightning? I wonder if that was before or after it was shot buy a 12 gauge. Quote
Hamster Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 At least the creator is at home doing this and not smashing old ladies windows or spraying obscenities on fences Quote
jonny-lad Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 What's this idea that if you burn bits of a bass it'll look aged and worn over time? Quote

noisedude Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 I'd like to agree that 'reliced' seems to have more to do with an incomplete treatment of nits in a primary school than it has to do with basses. Quote

budget bassist Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 doesn't look relic'd as much as he's just set fire to bits of it.... how many actually old basses do you see that on? Quote
In fairness, the cigarette burn on the headstock is a classic. Also some of the best bands set fire to their headstock's: Quote
Golchen Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Yeah, that's a bad un - but not the worst I've seen. We should have a hall of shame picture gallery around here for the worst offenders. Quote
yorks5stringer Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I think you are wrong about the custard: they'd only use that if it was Bird's Eye Maple.... Quote
maxrossell Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009
I think you are wrong about the custard: they'd only use that if it was Bird's Eye Maple....
Yeah, what the hell is with the yellow? I've never seen a bass spontaneously start to leak pus as it gets older, although the burnt bits do suggest that it has a nasty infection. I'm not against relicing, but I was under the impression that it was done with sandpaper and stain, not a backhoe and a flame-thrower. Quote

No need to get your coat. I've already set fire to it and poured custard through the sleeves. It's worth twice as much now. Quote

Ou7shined Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 (edited) from the link above... Some folk just don't have a clue. but the comments though..... Nice work man, that looks really cool! I'll bet it's a beaut to play... That is smokin'! Nice work. The more I see people building basses like these the more I want to make one myself. The world's gone mad!
