Jackopie1
Hi all, Forgive me if this is a silly question- I am new to routers. I have gifted a Bosch 1/4 inch 1,200w plunge router. One of the things I'd like to use it for is to rout cavities using templates, mainly for amatuer guitar building. I have been told to use flush trim bits for this. However, when the router is fully plunged, the collet is level with the top of the base. The base is 20mm thick. If 20mm of the bit's shank needs to be in the collet, that's a total of 40mm shank length needed before the bearing, if the bearing is going to get clear of the base. That's before considering the thickness of a template. From what I can see, there are no/very few bits with that sort of shank length before the bearing. Am I missing something here, or are flush trim bits not compatible with my router? Thanks.
