Galaxy
Before I spend a lot of money on different sets of DR strings I would like to get some advise for a 5-string set. So here are my wishes/ingredients: - Starting with 0.40 maximum on the G - Hex core or round core? - Roundwound is a must - I want a good slap sound on the B-string (for example Something Got Me Started - Simply Red & Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel) - Nickel or Stainless? - Normal or taperwound? - 120, 125, or 130 B-string? It's for this bass: https://www.ibanez.com/eu/products/detail/srms725_1p_01.html I hope you guys can give me some advise with this info. Thanks in advance! fretmeister
- Starting with 0.40 maximum on the G - They have several sets like that. - Hex core or round core? - Depends on whether you like a more flexible feel - Roundwound is a must - ok - I want a good slap sound on the B-string (for example Something Got Me Started - Simply Red & Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel) - All basses vary. It's as much about the bass as the string. - Nickel or Stainless? - Only you can decide that - Normal or taperwound? - DR does not have a lot of choice here - 120, 125, or 130 B-string? - Personal preference. The 5 string sets come as they come. If you want a different B then you'll have to buy a 4 string set and a separate B You'll also have to check to see if the DR's speaking length is long enough for the 35.5 scale on the B. DR put those figures on their website.
Supernaut
I would say Lo-Riders are better suited for yourself if you require the 40 G. Hi-Beams and Fat Beams are low tension with a 40 gauge so that may not work for yourself, especially with a floppy B string.
acidbass
I like the nickel Lo Riders - they seem to have a midrange fundamental that is just missing with other brands of strings. No idea why, possibly my imagination, but I always return to them.
