Keep yourself agile and adaptive…
Know your main gigging set on both 4 & 5 string instruments. (Properly now…making use of the B string and the positions it affords you). 

Have two identical cases and be blissfully unaware of what your tool is for the night, until sound check.

Keep a tally of which band members actually notice.

 

(NB This activity could be extended to 6 or 8 strings; indeed you could keep a bass with a purposely snapped string…)

Personally, I wouldn't have two identical cases. I would have a Red & a Black.

Well, this is a great idea, but the answer is clearly none.

They might just about notice by the first break if you'd actually failed to show up at all......... 🙁
