A young American double bass player/singer called Nate Sabat has released a crowdfunded album called Bass Fiddler on Spotify.  It's quite folky, Americana, a bit jazzy in places. Quite minimalist as it's just db and single voice. He's a Berklee-trained player. Some parts could be the sound-track to a Coen brothers movie!
