Fender aerodyne Pj neck replacement/cosmetic upgrades

Recently picked up an aerodyne and want to change the neck to a maple one, as well as changing the control plate

My question is, will I have to find a specific neck since the aerodyne is so light? Or can I simply just swap the current neck out for any standard jazz neck? 

And, I assume replacing the control plate will be as easy as getting a new one and resoldering everything onto it?
