Not sure I’d have ordered one if I had to factor in UK shipping though.  That puts it in a whole different price point.

That's what put my lad off getting one. It nearly doubles the price!

If I don’t get on with mine when it arrives (in November), I’ll bring it back to the UK with me and your son can have it at cost if he’s still interested then.

For those interested, Sterling seems to have strengthened a little against the dollar, so it currently £319.00 for the bass and £507.11 including shipping, U.S. taxes and UK customs duties.

Looks a bit ordinary to me but I do like the look of the 2 new colours for the short scale Sterling Stingrays.

Whilst it's a cool and all, £750 for a bass with the same less electronics and hardware as the SUB range....

Agreed. It makes perfect sense if you can order to an American address.  I spend half my year in Dallas with work, so mine is waiting for me when I arrive next week.   $425 (£339) makes this a decent buy.   I could think of a lot of other basses I’d sooner spend £750 on though.

What is wrong with people! 😅

As above, this bass was a good deal for US players, anywhere else the cost of shipping etc takes it way above its worth compared to others in the range.

Especially as they look like shit, the body shape is school project territory....

Its the position of the bridge that gives me the most anxiety...

So Anyway, I received mine on last Thursday.  Played it a few minutes, checked out the setup and everything was very good out of the box.

Took it to my 2-set 'Hippie Hour' gig the next evening.  It's a well-made bass and sounds just fine.  But I was a little thrown off by the flat wounds.  They feel a little stiff, but maybe I'm just spoiled with my G&L Fallout Tribute (short scale/round wounds).  The lack of a tone control didn't bother me.  It sounded very good with all my settings at noon.

It's a very nice bass for the money.  I had a lot of fun talking about it before it arrived and wondering who Joe Dart was. 😄

It'll probably end up at our drummer's house where we rehearse a few times a year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sterling and other brands repeat this formula for their endorsed artists or replica instruments.... take orders, manufacture, ship, and done.

weird enough nobody went for the Plank bass when it was for sale here. I think it’s a step above the JD sig: quality woods and hardware and NO control…

i’m still super happy with it, and it cost me less than the JD sig…

even weirder… the JD sig will sell for more with time and the Plank is probably impossible to sell although it’s worth double or more if you ask me..
