I’ve read a lot of reviews about the Warwick Gnome amps but there doesn’t appear to be much on their cabinets.

Has anyone had any experience with the cabinets as I’m think about the 2x8 or 2x10 4ohm with the gnome head as I want something smaller (and more forgiving on my back) than my 30year old TE combo?

I'm sure I've seen someone here who bought the 2x8. Your problem with something like the Gnome is that with 130W into 8 ohms you need a decently sensitive speaker and small speakers tendto be lower efficiency than larger ones. Unless you are looking at the more 'grown up' Gnomes with a bit more power.

It all depends upon your use though. My Gnome gives me enough to act as a monitor with a fairly ordinary 1x10 but we have eDrums so on-stage sound levels aren't too bad.

Have you already bought the Gnome or is it something you are still considering?

Something I'm considering.

There's loads of reviews on the TC electronics BC208 (which is cheaper) and they're generally really positive but was thinking the 2x10 which is 4ohm might allow more headroom. I was probably thinking of going for the 300W gnome head so pairing it with the same cabs might be a good choice (not based on anything more scientific than hoping that Warwick might have considered this). I've also seem a reasonably priced TE Elf set up but it's quite a bit more and lots of comments of noisy fans....

Useful to know that they still sound good though.

Looked at the Trace Elliot elf reviews but without an extension cab the 2x8 will be 130W as it’s an 8ohm cab

I've been leaving my Barefaced BB2 and EBS Reidmar 502 at home recently and been gigging a Warwick Gnome V1 and a 4ohm 2x8 Gnome cab and really liking it, don't usually get above 10 o'clock on the master and its plenty without backline support for a reasonably loud 4 piece, fills the room nicely with good low end.

I find it very upper mid punchy, sadly the piezo on the cab sounds a bit shite to my ears (non pleasant treble) but compared to the BB2's horn it's not even close to the same league! Overall very very impressed and would highly recommend, it always gets compliments and gigs and after picking the cab up used, I'm about £200 all in, bargain!

Guess difficult to compare to the BB2 as it's very much a different price point and class, useful info though, cheers.

Ended up going with a TC208 because I found one cheap and pretty happy with that but might look at the Warwick Gnome 10/4 to add to it when funds allow

This was my rig for Saturday night's gig at The Maltings in Ely - My Gnome 200-Watt Pocket Bass Amp Head into the matching 10/4. It was the first time I'd used it at a gig - I trialled it at a rehearsal and it coped very well against drums, guitar, vocals and electric fiddle. The gig however, was with a six-piece band (drums, keys, guitar, sax, vox and bass) on a good-sized stage with PA support, and I was stunned at how loud and clear the setup was. I didn't have to push the volume at all. Considering the fact that it's a single 10" speaker (and tweeter) the sound was rich and full. The Gnome amp is quite transparent, which suits me fine as I love the sound I get from the Entwistle pickups I fit to my gigging basses. The cab is light, but solid and seems to take effects well, although I don't use many.

As both the cab and amp are 4ohms, I was able to get the "full" 200 watts, but I didn't need to drive the rig too hard at all to get a sound that filled the stage, with headroom to spare.

It's early days, but the initial signs are very positive - an amp that fits in the pocket of a gig bag and a cab that's an easy, one-handed carry. Colour me impressed.

I'm a huge fan of the Gnome amp heads and use the 300w version for smaller gigs through a TC Electronics 2x8. In case you were not aware, the Gnome flat is with the bass at around 10 o'clock, the mids at around 2 o'clock and the treble at around 10 o'clock.

That's very useful - cheers Linus.
