I had a new pupil come for a lesson for the first time this morning & he came armed with a black Bass Collection (p+j) 4-string licensed copy by SX which he purchased from ebay for the princely sum of £40!

After I spent half an hour setting it up (the neck was bowed backwards and you could have flown an airliner under the strings!) it was a really playable, nice sounding bass. I haven't encountered any of the SX basses that so many of you wax lyrical about before, but I really liked this bass - Especially for the price my pupil paid!

I'm beginning to see the attraction!

I'm dying to give some other SX' a try too. They have a vast array of lefthanded models, and some very interesting twists on classic designs (mostly guitarwise). For example:

I'd dig those!

Two observations. It's nice to see a bass with a bolt-on neck that has been finished in the same colour as the body.

And now I have guitar GAS for RH version of the sharks-fin shape... You got a link for that?

My point exactly!
And they're incredibly affordable too, at $160: http://www.rondomusic.com/product2459.html
They also offer a slightly upgraded version with a heavier bridge, different pickups and different tuners, and a shortscale fretless version.

I certainly do: http://www.rondomusic.com/electricguitar.html (you'll find the first ones on page 5)
Look for the SJM57 and SJM62. The 57 is a maple board version, the 62 has a rosewood board. They have them with both chrome-covered humbuckers and P90's, and both with the Fender Jaguar-style tremolo and with a stoptail.

Sorry for the slight hijack :)

Used to own the SGC Nanyo 320 version of this bass. Very easy and fun to play and the tone was pretty good.

I regret selling it, actually...

I'd really like one of those SX basses, but once you add the overseas shipping, duty and obligatory hard case, that $100 bass is going to end up costing more like £200. Is there a better way?

Here in Holland, there seems to be a distributor. There are a few stores that sell these. But all of them only stock 'your basic average Strat, Tele, Precision and Jazz' and some startersets, and not the really interesting models.

There are some UK dealers listed here.

Hmmm, none of the shops are close to me, and none of the online stores list any of the models that I'm interested in. It's not going to happen, is it?

Before I came here I used to hang round ActiveBass a lot...About 80% American and all I heard was how SX rivals Squier and then some in build and sound...
Well if we consider that Squier in recent years have really upped the bar and are giving Fender MIM's a run for thier money...An SX should be the mutts nuts!
Best of all, they do ANYTHING you could want! Fretted, fretless, extended range...hell they even do a 27" Baritone guitar!

Why don't we get such choice?
