andy. Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 Thanks but they are no good ether does no one have the music to the bassline?!?! Quote
Oscar South Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 The bassline is as simple as it gets, just roots, fifths and a few chromatic approach notes. its just a 16 bar blues, get the chords from somewhere (can prob get em from one of the links in this thread) and figure it out. Quote
andy. Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 I can play it but i need to write it down and i cant do it to save my life thats why i need the music Quote

OutToPlayJazz Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Well, being as dirty bum sex definitely isn't in my agenda, I'll call in a favour at some time in the future We do it in F usually. Is that okay for you? Quote
OutToPlayJazz Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Yes, just checked - The version in my pads is in F Major, but the original is in C Major. Which would you prefer, Andy? Quote
andy. Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 whichever the headhunters cd version is in. Call the favour in anytime Quote
OutToPlayJazz Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I've done it in both F & C versions - Hopefully you'll be able to move it around from there... My invoice is in the post, LOL! Quote

andy. Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! and life goes on..... lol Quote
OutToPlayJazz Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 (edited) I seem to remember having a sheet music version somewhere that was in Bb, but I don't know what the original key is. If it is Bb, just move a couple of frets down from the C version. That'll sort it. This is the problem with standards, there are so many versions in so many different keys! I had to play 'Don't get around much anymore' last night in Db due to some girl singer only being able to do it in that key! Sorry if it's a bit scrawly - I just wrote it out and scanned it this evening! I find I can write music faster than I can input it into Sibelius Edit: Just listened to a couple of excerpts on iTunes of the Hancock versions. Seems he usually did it in F! OutToPlayJazz Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Btw, the above transcription is a simplified version of the bassline I've always played for 'Watermelon Man.' I'd never heard the original when I started playing it, so this is just my take on the song, but it fits really well. I still use it as well! Quote
