Cleaning sticky nickel D'addario round wounds

I've just put a set of used D'addarios nickel wound back on a bass. Only a few months old and they have a sticky feel to them and they don't look as bright. Is there a way of cleaning them up?

Alcohol wipes will do it.

Thank you. I was hoping this was the case but didn't want to make things worse.

I don't think it will make any different to how they look but if there's any gunk on them that should be cleaned off pretty easily.

A splash of mouthwash on a rag also works well as a gentle (and paint friendly) cleaner if you don’t happen to have alcohol wipes.
