NAD! Ashdown CTM 15

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Just got this and had a blast through headphones for 10 minutes. First thoughts are built like a tank and it sounds great, very warm but I had turn the volume down on my stingray to get a clean tone, so will need to spend a bit of time sussing it out. Hopefully get a chance to try it through speakers tonight. But quite excited by it!

Sounded great through my old Barefaced compact. Passive tone controls are a bit counterintuitive to me (if anyone can explain them, like what is flat! I’d be grateful!) but I think it’s a great wee thing.

The tone controls on CTM amps are confusing and if like the CTM100 a nightmare at times

It’s the reason I sold mine in the end as it had a lack of EQ adjustment

I bought one but it won't arrive until next month.

I must say that I didn't know it was a Solid State Preamp with a Valve Power Amp section. I know that the previous model was, but I thougth this one wasn't. The valve in the preamp is just for overdrive (just like in their OriginAL preamp). However, I heard many Demos on Youtube (mostly about the previous version) and it sounds pretty good. I already think about swapping the valve (I did the same in the Preamp). Dave said it was fine, but that it won't make much of a difference. I expect to get more sweet spots with the Gain, since I prefer mostly clean with some hair. I will report back when I have the amp.

@steviedee how are you enjoying yours?

I think it's awesome it's my go to for fun but it is loud, my plan is to use it for recording either try the di or mic the cab. I've got the capo and the cranbourne audio ec1 so the plan is to record a signal from the either the capo or the Cranbourne and send the clean signal to the ashdown for a more  overdriven tone. Might be overkill or it might be great but I'm glad I bought it either way. However, buying the Ashdown has made me buy a P Bass to get that old school vibe. I blame Ashdown!

Seriously though I really like it.

Years and years ago I used one of these through two Barefaced Super Conpacts because we thought it would be fun. Two guitarists using a 2x12 and a 4x12, and this kept up. It was gnarly as f*^% and didn’t really have much bottom end but it was pretty cool!
