I have nothing to base (no pun intended) my views on apart from what sounds nice to me.

This is all that counts.

Not Tonex but I went through preset amp tones on 'new to me' Zoom 60B and despite having experience of a few of the amps I didn't think many were representative of the tone that was in my memory banks.  In the end (using factory settings) I found the SWR tone was the most pleasing and I used that for my baseline setting.

Took it to practice today - literally bass-pedal-desk-pa. This pedal is absolutely awesome.

Literally ran the preset 'welcome to the mids' or something, added a bit more mods and it was lovely svt goodness.

Can wait to give it a thorough work out soon.

The Tonex is something that captures amps & cabs whereas the Zoom 60b is a pretty low end modeler - they’re not even in the same conversation tbf

I was responding to @rwillett's comment about having no reference to the tones that are in 'any' of these devices, no matter whether they are true IR captures/models or Lo-Fi stores in a pedal.  Sometimes using your ears and deciding what you like/dislike is the best method for choosing your tones; an SVT might be an iconic amp and some users might assume that a capture in a Tonex is as good as you'll get, yet I didn't rate some of the bass captures at all and the Lo-Fi sounds in a Zoom were as good IMHO.

completely depends how they are modelling and capturing things.
I don't really see much difference in an SVT amp capture/model made by Zoom and stuck in a £110 pedal vs a SVT amp capture/model made by Brian from Oxford and uploaded into a £130 pedal

I wouldn't worry about it, since we don't know the exact process used by IK or Zoom in creating their models. It does seem to me that the IK ToneX models are more than simple captures, since they're modelling the gain responses of the devices too, and that's pretty important when we're talking about something like an Ampeg SVT. The Fridge does a good job at that to my ears. I don't know the Zoom to compare.

Compare that with the captures from users on ToneNet, which appear to me to model at fixed gain settings on the device being captured e.g. I mentioned captures of the JHS Colour Box whica are up there at low, medium and high. If the gain control on a device just changes the input level, and the modelling process also changes the input level, then that should capture the gain response too. I don't have enough knowledge about the devices being modelled or the modelling processes, so I don't worry about it as long as it sounds good.

Software is OK too once you get your head around it.

Only thing I'm looking for now is individual cabs so I can mix and match amp and cab. Not sure how to do that?

Honestly, these tonex captures are unbelievable!!

Never heard an svt emulated like some of these.

Was this the "welcome to the mids" you alluded to earlier?

That one worked great, but I've found one - clank and a 4x10. Gees that's rich through my cab.

I'm just going through everything and getting organised.

The aguilar and ampegs really come to life.

I wonder why I struggled to understand what I was listening to :) Now I have a recommendation, I'll try that one.

Perhaps we need a dedicated ToneX thread for stuff like this?

Thanks

I’ve been saying this for ages - they’re a different class to a most, they’re IMO like the Quad Cortex captures really, certainly the IK ones are, the user generated captures are a mixed bag but it’s good they’re there as there is some really excellent ones

I'm massively impressed by their customer service. I had to re-enter the serial code and they sent me a new one in less than a day.

Did they charge you? I thought they stung people £20 for this service.

I had a similar problem, and wasn't charged. It was a screw-up on their part: I correctly registered my serial number and it worked for a month, then the device just disappeared off my account and if I tried to reregister it I was told it was already in use. It took them several days in my case but has been OK since.
