Nothing is intuitive, I had to reinstall twice (in 3 hours), I had to reload models/presets 'purchase' (even though they were free with the pedal) each time I restarted the pedal, I also had to scour tutorials to suss that you couldn't listen to adjustments 'live'.  You have to play through an alternative interface or if using the pedal you need to bypass the pedal, disable direct monitoring AND enable a setting in the app... none of which is explained in any lit from Tonex; thankfully helpful people like @bnt et al have been through this and helped.

I've not had to reinstall the software. nor load and presets each time I restart the pedal. I have reset the pedal deliberately as I cocked things up, but it just worked.

The interface is rubbish and someone earlier suggested the librarian should be split from the pedal bit. I think that's a good idea. Indeed the iPad version doesn't have the Librarian in it which is annoying.

What worries me is that you have had a lot of problems that I haven't on Windows. I haven't used it as an audio interface though. I have a crappy old Lenovo, Windows 10, with 16GB of ram but its 5-6 years old, minimum, might be older.I did nothing clever so I'm wondering what you have thats messing you up.

@bnt seems far better versed than myself on this stuff, so I'll defer to him but I'm happy to help when I get back fromLondon

Several issues could be my lack of experience with Tonex but tbh I dived straight into the TC software/hardware tone editing in the Plethora with very little need to search tutorials.  The crashing and reinstalling of software etc is squarely down to Tonex.  Without @bnt's guidance on what/how to disable various things to utilise the pedal as an interface when adjusting presets, I'd have put the pedal out of the window.  It was infuriating that it wasn't described in a basic guide.

A new Editor app is coming that separates the Librarian function from the main ToneX modelling app, which was the cause of a lot of confusion and settings changes. The app will have direct editing of Presets on the pedal in real time i.e. no more editing a Preset in ToneX just to have it sound different on the pedal.

I like this a lot.

I picked up a little processor board for £4 - there is a project which bridges the ToneX One usb with midi, so as I have a midi controller on my board, for my dwarf, I will also be able to bluetooth midi to the ToneX One and switch between any of the built in 20 presets live.

That sounded like a good thing!

I was looking at that yesterday with the view to maybe getting a ToneX One and controlling it from my GX-100. I'd be very interested to hear how you get on with that!

Now that's interesting. Any links please?

Damm.... Another !"£$%^&*()£$%^&*( rabbit hole and here's me with no will power :)

You don't need it though with the full fat one though. That can be controlled with MIDI anyway.

This is true, although for the price of one of those you can get two of the mini ones and have them doing different things!

Very interesting project though....

I thought so - so I am thinking of changing my Dwarf pedalboards to just be effects, and use the tonex on the output as the amp sim, then straight to the PA. I have a midi controller controlling the dwarf now, as I had an issue switching pedalboards live (not often but when I did I really did!)

Thats how I run my board. However isn't there some changes coming up that's allowing the ToneX pedal to be just effects? I've paid no attention to recent news,

I know but it's still an interesting rabbit hole :)

I've just bought a tonex one.

To save confusion, what is the best software to use now?

Until the ToneX Editor is released "iminently", your only choice is to use ToneX CS, with its complications. That does double duty as both the Librarian (managing presets on the pedal) and a full ToneX package that does it all (creating presets that you can transfer to the pedal).

If you already have another audio interface, you can use that instead of the ToneX One when creating presets, which avoids the confusion of settings changes to avoid double processing. Then only plug in the One to transfer presets.

The ToneX Editor really looks to me like IK's response to all the confusion and criticism about the ToneX CS / Pedal / One workflows.

There are a lot of good tones in the ToneX trying to get out. Get used to the software and it does work, might take some time

Sorry - I meant ToneX SE, that's what I have. The "CS" is on other IK Multimedia apps I got such as Syntronik 2.

"The Fridge" is still my #1 preset, but I'm also trying other models from ToneNet. There's a model of the JHS Colour Box that's useful on mediumgain. I still want to find a nice GK model, a lot of people swear by them but so far I don't quite hear it.

Thats my problem, I have nothing to base (no pun intended) my views on apart from what sounds nice to me. I hear that the Fender Bassman 57 is a fantastic amp and a Dumble amp is worth gazillions. I hear something called that and have no idea. I've never even seen these mythical amps, and now I think back on it I haven't seen 99% of all ther other amps and effects,.
