Cliff Edge
Allegedly the world's rarest album. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cl443d48x3yo I don’t know much about the artists although I did buy the moo moo land CD. For the kids you understand. But this, the only copy in existence, seems highly unlikely given the number of people involved in producing it. Paolo85
Ah! I learnt recently that Duke Ellington recorded a long suite exclusively for Queen Elizabeth. It was never released during his lifetime. It is not known if the Queen also held "listening parties".
musicbassman
What a bizarre story. Sounds like this was treading on that fine line between pure artistic endeavour and something worthy of Private Eye's Pseuds Corner. Other opinions are available. 🙂

Other opinions are available. 🙂 I think they are one of the only groups that can pull it off as artistic endeavour: Given that they never signed to a major label and they've always done things quite originally, and their love of kung fu sort of mythology, and this album being titled 'once upon a time in Shaolin' (which fits with previous albums), it's the sort of rare/mystical 'artefact' that fits into the themes they've always had. And (so far, after 9 years) true to their word, this hasn't been more widely released or heard. I think it'd have been better if they'd gone all out though and made it a from gold vinyl or a phonograph cylinder or something, a CD seems a bit cheap and common! meterman
I remember the hype surrounding this album at the time, and the crazy purchase price paid for it by Martin Shkreli. It seemed to be more of an ‘art world’ kind of thing than a regular album, possibly because none of the tracks have appeared elsewhere, to my knowledge at least. Always wanted to hear it though. There’s loads of ‘one-off’ releases in existence already, many of which haven’t made it into the digital realm in any form. But because this is a super rare Wu-Tang Clan album it garners more press coverage than it otherwise might.
BigRedX
And what's the betting that one of the listeners manages to sneak in a recording device and the tracks are all over the internet before the end of June?

They're only playing a 30 minute sample of the album so even if there are leaks, it won't be the whole thing.

TimR
KLF set fire to £1m cash and deleted their entire back catalogue. So they still have a way to go to match that.

But a lot of that back catalogue sold in significant numbers when it was released so there are plenty of copies still around for anyone who wants to hear or buy them. G-Lo
Yep, Master tapes were deleted too. It was a statement on throwaway culture of music on the internet and streaming. There's a clause in the contract that says they, or Bill Murray, may obtain the album back in a heist. Good for them. The only shame is that it's allegedly as good as any of the albums they releaed at peak. The whole endeavour is art in itself. Shame that Shrkeli bought it, they weren't pleased about that themselves.
