So, in a fit of “not using, sell it…”

I bought this bass as a bit of a wreck on eBay courtesy of over indulgence with wine.

it’s an ovation style bowl back, Italian (Eko) made - these are sometimes seen as Rondo etc.

Anyhow, I took the frets out. Added flamenco style tap plates etc. I was also OCD’ed out by the encore logo being 10mm off centre, so killed that too.

Again, this was done with wine in hand.

Neck had a small, old and stable split near the machine heads so I clamped and glued it.

Solid now - probably outlast me…

Defret is a decent enough job, probably not 100%, but board was radius sanded etc so better than some jobs I’ve had to fix for others in the past. Just not perfect as I’ve been out of the repair game for a while.

Sounds ace unplugged. Sounds decent plugged in - a passive volume/tone.

Plays well - I think it could have a lower action, but I was going for DB vibes so it’s about right for that…I had debated some lower tension strings. But that’s your shout.

Saddle would probably need lowering as it’s low at position 1-5.

edit - I can do PayPal invoices so you can do on PP credit. Forgot about this…will have to add Fees, but it won’t be much.

So I purchased an Ashdown pre/DI to balance the sound out and reduce potential feedback.

So, £190

Bass

soundhole bung

Ibanez Gigbag which is basically brand new.

Just realised I can’t let the Yamaha BEX go - and practically speaking, it gets very close to that double bass sound I was aiming for.

Shipping, while not advisable, is possible.

Manchester M27 for collection.

A proper marmite bass, if you hate it…fair enough.

But I know why people will love it.

The fretless acoustic situation has become stupid.

The non mariachi looking one needs some attention, I bought while leathered because I’m a tit.

It needs a bit of attention, looks like it’s had some bits done and not finished.

Sounds amazing, but needs a bit of TLC.

I’m at a point where I’d love to tackle it. But I haven’t got time or money to throw at another project.

It’s wooden backed (mariachi is plastic/bowl)

It owes me £150, because I’m a tit.

Happy to entertain offers/swaps for a pedal or something.

I also still have the Ashdown Pre. So maybe something can be figured out.

I think £100 is realistic for what the bass is.

It’s old and bonkers, sounds very well - slightly bigger body than the other one. Sounds deeper/louder as a result…

Whichever one sells first will close this thread…

edit - I’ve made its own thread…for the big dreadnought bass…

Performed admirably at the beeb…

But - it’s now done its job.

I’m selling everything except the ripper and the orange BB, so it needs a new home.

I had boxes.

I’ve sold 2 basses - now I have no more boxes.

But, Mrs Travis has just ordered some stuff that’s arrived in big boxes, so I could work something out.

The bass you’re dying to own…is still available 😉😉😉
